This is a controller for Somfy RTS motors. If what you have is a "Z-Wave virtual cord," that's a Z-Wave device that needs a Z-Wave controller, not a Somfy RTS controller or remote. This device is designed to fit into a wall, and is shaped like a Decora wall switch. It needs some space in the wall behind the drywall, but if there's space next to an existing wall switch, it can be mounted next to an existing Decora switch so that it looks like a typical multigang switch. It is battery powered, even though it fits into a wall, so it does not get "hard wired." It can be programmed to pair with a Somfy RTS device by following the instructions.

Q: I have an awning with a Somfy motor and uses a simple remote (which can be miss placed or lost) will this work?

Yes, this Somfy Wireless RTS wall switch can replace a single channel Somfy Telis 1 RTS remote (long thin remote with Up/MY/DOWN buttons). If the motor is older and used a small black square remote, then this will not work as that was not RTS.
