Good low budget brushes for general use
I use Purdy brushes for fine finishes. When I’mworking on something non-critical like a a primer coat, staining, spreading glue or something that needs paint or poly that is out of site, I’ll use a lesser brush.Chinese made Pro Grade brushes are a decent low budget brush. I included a photo of a Purdy brush next to the Pro Guide brush for your reference. The Purdy ferrule that holds the bristles is made of brass. The Pro Grade is steel and it will rust so the Pro Grade brushes will not last as long. The bristles are better set in the Purdy - they don’t pull out as easily as the Pro Grade. I know because I tried that exact exercise. The Pro Grade brushes clean well. I just painted 100 lineal feet of trim wood with primer and black paint and I used the Pro Grade for the primer. Cleaned up beautifully. The Purdy brush is about $10 and the Pro Grade is about $2. There’s no denying the Purdy is the better brush but for spreading white glue or Gorilla glue that’s going to ruin the brush, I go cheaper. The Purdy brush is in the left in the photo with the brass ferrule. The Pro Grade is on the right. Hope that helps!
