Good product. Recommended.
Delivered Nov 1, 2021. Price $6.74 before taxesI bought this product because I like magnesium & ferro rod combinations. The cylinder type tend to have a softer magnesium making it easier to remove than from the smaller bar type. The bars are of course more compact & weigh less than these larger units. With a good scraper, both types are functional.I see the reviews in which some bars didn't work. I have a number bars from a number of companies. Most if not all had all or most components made in China, including these. Some may still be made in Europe. Not sure about some with Swedish or German names. I believe the Doan's are still manufactured in the US. Of the many I own, I haven't found any that don't work. Some are better than others. Some time back I bought a Dosmamz combination unit of this type. Essentially and practically they are the same unit. The main difference is the name. To me, they function the same. There are other cosmetic differences. First is price - Dosmamz $8.99, Fostar $6.74. Second is handle - Dosmamz is Orange, Fostar is luminous. Otherwise, same shape, size and style. Third is cordage - Dosmamz is black paracord with reflective thread, Fostar is Orange paracord. Length the same. The Dosmamz has their name imprinted on the handle. The Fostar does not even though the sales picture shows markings on the handle. The ferro rod is 3 1/8 inch long by just under 1/4 inch. 1/2 inch of that is molded in the handle. The rod functions well. I like the over molding of the ferro rod because it isn't likely to be knocked off. I've had rods which either come loose or been knocked off. This can be a problem unless you carry a backup ferro rod. I do. This rod is larger than many. Even so, it will wear down much sooner than the magnesium. I rarely need a guarter inch of magnesium. Usually, I use a small amount as an accelerant depending on other tinder I'm using and weather conditions. The magnesium cylinder is 3 1/8 inch long by 5/8 inch diameter. A chanel is cut out of the mag to accept the ferro rod. 1/2 inch is also over molded into the handle. The handle is some sort of plastic and not going to come loose. The scraper is a combination style commonly used. They usually have a burred edge which works best. Some don't. This one did. Something I have never found mentioned in either video or written reviews is that a few minutes with a file can greatly improve provided scrapers. It does. You can buy better scrapers on Amazon or eBay. It's worth it.The cuped out portion of the scraper has teeth intended to scrape magnesium. The scraper is beneficial in preparing natural tinder as well. This one has teeth on the lower edge of the scraper. A first. It's a matter of preference whether to use them or not.The Fostar brand seems to be a pretty good product at an affordable price. The reviews I found weren't very helpful. I recently bought a couple of ferro rods from them which were good drawing me to this product.I recommend both and hope this will help you make your decision.

Works very well
I bought this for my son to use. It has an over sized handle and the striker is larger than most. It is much easier for my son to get an impressive shower of sparks. Seems very well made.

Good quality
It’s a tad larger than I thought, but it’s one of the few available that is a combination ferro rod AND magnesium rod.

I like the handle, and that magnesium and Farro rod are together.
I'm happy with this product. Wish the farro rod was bigger. But the magnesium is big.

Glow-in-the-dark magnesium/ferro rod firestarter? YES, please!
This thing is huge, glows in the dark, has plenty of magnesium and a sufficient firesteel. In wet or dry environments, you can expect to get a flame going every time. Out of the box it started my tinder on the second strike. Very inexpensive, and well worth it.

Good back up
1st and foremost it feels like it's made very well. However over the past week camping, the only downside is a li didn't use it very much maybe 3-4 strikes a night for a fire.and it has some deep gouges
