Good book but appalling conversion to Kindle.
I enjoy Nigel Tranter's books and really was looking forward to this one.Certainly the content is as good as ever with plenty of action which I suspect is much more widely based on fiction than some of his more historical novels.Unfortunately the whole experience was ruined by the slovenly way the original had been converted to an ebook.I imagine that some form of word recognition software had been used with little or no subsequent editing. The result is that 'burn' often appears as 'bum' and 'clan' as 'dam' and so on. In the middle of Chapter 14 there is a confused jumble of words whet it seems parts of a paragraph have been copied into the wrong place. This happens too often to be ignored and spoils the enjoyment completely. It really is not good enough when you are paying so much for a simple download rather than getting it in book form.Set this criticism aside and my only other gripe would be the number of locations that Tranter interspersed into th narrative.I am no stranger to Scotland but I spent far too much time trying to follow the geography rather than the story.

Gold for Prince Charlie
It is 1745, and the highlanders are limping away from a devastating defeat at the battle of Culloden. The duke of Cumberland offers a "princely" sum for Prince Charles, dead or alive. Duncan MacGregor joins a small army dedicated to protecting the prince. Aided by beautiful but headstrong Caroline Cameron, Duncan isn't sure what'll kill him first, her or the enemy

Inaccurate
He says that Duncan MacGregor marched from Culloden Moor to Drummossie Moor a couple of miles away. Drummossie Moor is Culloden Moor. I work there and we talk about it at the presentations. They are the same. Then they say that Cumberland's Hessian forces are spearing the victims of Culloden. Cumberlands's Hessian forces were left behind. Cumberland deliberately took only British troops with him. He didn't take any foreign troops with him. For someone who is Scottish he should have known better.
