Guessed Right
So buying shoes or boots online is a bit of a guessing game, as you obviously can’t try them on first. I got the sizing right the first time. If you are in between sizes, definitely go up a half size, if available.Break in period is non-existent; the comfort level is great right out of the box. I haven’t done a long walk yet to see if anything rubs or pinches, but in the times I’ve worn them, everything from the toe box to the heel is good.I’ve read that some folks have had the quick lace break through the eyelets, but I’ve not encountered that. This could be due to over-tightening.One minor knock on the boots would be the loop of laces you’re left with after you’ve tightened them. You end up with this big loop of wire-like lace that you have to tuck somewhere. Salomon does provide you with a “pocket” sewn at the top of the outer tongue to tuck this left-over portion of the laces, but for all the speed that you gain with the system when tightening, you end up taking just as much or more time tucking everything away so it doesn’t get caught on stuff. I’d hate to have to try to do this with gloves on.Having said that, the comfort, lightness, waterproof-ness and flexibility of the boot while lending very good support are big factors in favor of this boot.

Awesome boots!
I received the order fast and it was sent on an APO address which was great. The boots fit perfectly and they are very comfortable. A notable thing was the first experience when I wear them in a 12 km walk with a 3 day backpack without having any issues contrary to any expectation when you are wearing new shoes for the first time. Overall, awesome boots for both tactical and outdoor purposes.

Good, comfortable boot.
I had to order one size larger than what I normally wear, based on reading other feedback and trying another similar Salomon boot at a local store. The boot is narrow, and I suspect that's because they want to provide lateral support while leaving more room for the toes. Was originally going to buy the 4D boot, but the quicklace seemed like a more workable idea. I intend to wear regularly, and getting them on quickly would help the process.Have only worn it for a short while, and very satisfied so far. Have not worn it on a hike or rough surface yet. Am optimistic it will work out well.

Great shoe with one major design deficiency
I have owned Salomon shoes for 15 years now. I typically like their goretex lined hikers because they are a pretty warm, well insulated shoe. They typically don’t breathe super well due to the insulation, but I like that since I get cold feet while out in the inclement weather. Most of their g-Tex lined hikers are also surprisingly water resistant.I bought this model because I couldn’t fine any g-Tex lined hikers with the quick-cinch laces locally here in Idaho. There are a few details I like about these that are shared between other Salomon. But one thing I was really pleasantly surprised by was the instep pad. I operate shovels almost every day on my property when the ground isn’t frozen. This pad absolutely saves the instep of your foot from getting bruised up. I now wish every pair of shoes and boots that I wear had this.My major complaint about the shoes is the relatively poor insulation provided by shoe right above the toe knuckle at the bottomOf the tongue. Salomon used some flimsy Cordura style nylon material in this area that suffers from three problems: 1.) it’s insulation factor is nil, 2.) it gets wet and wicks water vapor, causing it to become even colder, 3.) it provides no impact protection.Yes it’s flexible, but maybe just a little too much. These shoes are geared towards combat forces. I don’t know if this benefits them, but it sure as hell detracts from the quality for my uses. If this one issue were address by Salomon, these would be one of the best designed rugged (yet comfortable, and convenient) outdoor work shoes they’ve made.
