The MX 629 is a bluish black, so this might meet your needs.

There are many factors that can contribute to this happening. One thing to watch for is the temperature of the water that you use to both dissolve the dye powder and make your dye bath. It should be in the range of 75F-95F. Does your cotton possibly have a permanent press finish on it? Did you also add the salt to the dye bath? Did you dye the fabric for a full hour after you added the soda ash? We hope that this helps.

Q: Will this work on bleach stained white items?

I will dye the white areas to an slightly off-white color but the rest of the shirt will also become a little darker. In cases like this, there is no way to over-dye the item and have it come out a solid color over all of the item.
