The Genealogy Do-Over Workbook

At times the writer uses some terms that are not totally comfortable to me but not bad
I purchased both the Kindle and the softcover version. The kindle allows me to go to the many links provided, which is helpful. The softcover allows me to earmark pages and share with my husband who does genealogy with me. We do not have exactly the problem he addresses with inadequately cited research, but rather tons of it, well cited but in need of organization and review. The book addresses going over as well as doing it over. We are going a bit more slowly than the book's pace, but it has been motivating and educational along with some other organizational steps we have taken. At times the writer uses some terms that are not totally comfortable to me but not bad, which is why I did not give it 5 stars. He gives countless resources, solid education, lots of permission to go at one's own pace and places to find our more. A friend recommended it to me and I would recommend it to others.

Finally...The Genealogy Do-Over Workbook is Here!
Finally...the book so many genealogists have been waiting for is here: The Genealogy Do-Over Workbook by Thomas MacEntee. I have been a genealogist for more than 25 years, but when I started out, I didn't know much about methodology or how to properly format source citations, or even how to find the best resources. I learned through trial and error and by making plenty of mistakes along the way. So in January 2015, when Thomas MacEntee shared this concept with the genealogical community, I made the decision that a "do-over" was just what I needed. But life got in the way and I had to stop after just a few weeks. While the guidelines for the Genealogy Do-Over were posted online and through a Facebook group, many genealogists (myself included) were asking for a book version. Newly released, The Genealogy Do-Over Workbook is an easy-to-follow, success driven program designed to help genealogists improve their skills, Whether you have been working on your genealogy for two months or 20 years,The Genealogy Do-Over Workbook will help you learn and/or review the key research concepts and techniques, and discover the tools and technologies you need to be a better genealogist so that you can effectively share your family history information with future generations. Now that I have this Kindle version, I am armed and ready to "redo" my own "Genealogy Do-Over" in 2016!

Genealogy Done Right!
Genealogical research is a hobby for many amateurs. Everyone is an amateur when they first start out looking for ancestors, and most of us tend to be over eager to collect ancestors. By following the guidelines Thomas has presented, anyone can produce professional results with carefully researched and documented evidence to reconstruct the family of your ancestors.I have been following the Genealogy Do-Over group on Facebook since January 2015. I have learned from Thomas and the other members of the group better research habits and new resources. Techniques I was taught about research in college have been strengthened and improved. My database is quite large, and it will take years to get the entire database of my ancestors documented and corrected, but it is becoming a product I will be proud to share with my relatives.

The PERFECT companion guide to the DO-OVER PLAN!
Thomas MacEntee has once again gone above and beyond in helping fellow genealogists, beginners to professionals, get a handle on organization at every level. In his no pressure presentation of the Do-Over, Thomas allows you to work at your own speed, accomplish what is important to making your research easier, and being able to "grab and go" whatever document you are searching for, without the hunt and peck of where something was placed - or misplaced. There is a webinar, a Facebook Group, and now this paperback book to help you in each and every step. You don't need to wait for January 1st to roll around, you need to start this program when it is good for you and take as long as you need. Thank you Thomas from not only this household, but for countless of other researchers who will benefit from this MUST HAVE reference.

Some of us need a do-over
Very basic with mostly obvious suggestions. Good for a quick reality check. But beginners only need one basic book. I suggest this for newer users who did what I did in the beginning -- just jumped in with both feet and chased all "shiny" leads and hints I came across. I ended with a big pile of "stuff" this book helped me step back and re-examine what I found. If you choose to read this at the very beginning and follow the suggestions it will help.

What I needed to start my year
This do over is exactly what I needed to get me back to my basics, things I messed up when I initially started my family history work. Keeping me focused and covering a bit each month it is helping me over come my tendency to chase after 'bright shiny objects' (aka BSOs). If you follow it step by step and don't try to skip areas, over think it, or what ever else you tend to do, it will enhance and improve your efforts.Going online, and to fb joining others doing over as well is also beneficial.

Great everyday read
I had participated in the initial genealogy do-over and so was pleasantly surprised when this workbook came out.My best advice to anyone embarking on the do-over is to read the entire book and then go back and work month-by-month. This allows you to see what is in store and will ease the anxiety of what the do-over entailed. As I prepare to open my genealogical business, this challenge has helped me to hone my research skills and insure my clientele that my research methodology is top-notch. I recommend that anyone starting a company or dream of their own genealogy business read and participate in the do-over. You'll truly be glad you did.

A great way to pace yourself over a period of time ...
A great way to pace yourself over a period of time and methodically work through your previous research, guided by Thomas. Fill in those source citations that you didn't know how to write up properly when you first started research and by the time you did, it was a huge task to go back and do it again... ;-) An excellent work book that you can follow at your own pace when time allows.

Interesting but you can't click links in a paperback
Interesting ideas but there are a lot of sections which appear to be url links. I have the paperback version and am disappointed that the url addresses are not included. It looks like it may just be a dump of a blog series so you may just want to search first
