Salsa & Afro Cuban Montunos for Piano Book/downloadable audio files

This is an excellent book. It comes with a cd that allows you to hear first then play. There are many montuno patterns in the book. As a professional drummer that is very rhythm oriented, this book took all the myths I had about this style of music and launches out a window. There are MANY ways to play montunos..... But this book will provide the tools to hear or read, break down, and play some of the most challenging montunos. This is a great foundational book for the Salsa player. If your a beginner, get this book and you will have less questions.

This book is great. It's geared more toward the player who has more experience in the style and has a general understanding about montunos in general. What I liked about the book is that it has tons of ideas to expand on. It goes into different ideas using both 2-3 and 3-2 claves (which was something I had a harder time trying to figure out). What the book lacks in written instruction is made up for with the large number of ideas and exercises available. Great product that the person I ordered it from delivered on time.

I started piano lessons a couple of years ago and am now ready to tackle the montunos. The book is very good starts easy and becomes harder. The CD lets one hear the rhythm plus it plays with piano and another with percussion background to play along. I don't have a problem with that since I am a Latin percussionist and have played some trombone, just have to practice to increase the tempo. I want to learn the montunos in order to record playing several instruments myself, it is fun!Armando

Great primer on playing Montuno's I play Vibes and this gives me a good set of tools for creating Latin figures for backing solos. Thank you!

this book is the great source for those who are looking to learn or improve your skills playing salsa. I definitely recommend this book.

Well organized and highly musical

...nothing i learned from this book. It is better the book of montunos from Rebecca Mauleon (101 montunos) but not sufficient.
