The mightiest mage of the Forgotten Realms forges peace between masters of magic.
This book feels like a "side trek" adventure for a very "high level" adventuring campaign. There is an homage to THE COLOR OF MAGIC, in the premise of a "Lost Spell", which is coveted by all the arch ages of the realm. Elminster must arbitrate an accord between these mages in order to determine which of them could wield this spell, which would allow one of them to dominate the world through magic. What we wind up with is a haunted house filled with mages in the middle of a "spellstorm" which chaotically disrupts all magic within. It has charming moments as arrogant wizards are rendered helpless, with a dash of whodunit. Some plot threads are left hanging and the resolution is a bit easy for Elminster compared to his recent rebirth and madnesses, yet this is forgivable as perhaps not every adventure must be part of a grand saga.

Another great Sage of Shadowdale tale!
The characters, familiar to many, are once again set into complex mixtures of intrigues, schemes, grand plans, and revenges where the Sage of Shadowdale is tasked by Mystra to bring a seed of accord to further her vision of magic in the post-Second Sundering world of Faerun. Greenwood weaves, almost as well as the new Weavemaster himself, the cast of characters amidst strange and wild circumstances only some from the raging Spellstorm about them.

Fantasy Locked-room Murder Mystery, Sort of
This was a bizarre little book. It was kind of a "we're all stuck in a mansion, the bodies are piling up, and one of us is the killer" murder mystery. At the same time, it had some Forgotten Realms alums wedged in for no apparent reason. Mixed in is a bunch of Forgotten Realms lore recap, which was distracting because it was incomplete enough to be confusing unless you are a hardcore fan of the setting.I think if you have kept up with the Greenwood books, you might enjoy this. If you are just a fan of D&D, I probably wouldn't recommend it. It definitely doesn't give you any sense of the Forgotten Realms setting as it currently exists. If you are a fan of Locked-room Mysteries, I recommend looking elsewhere.

One of Greenwood's best
One of Greenwood's best books. Was surprised at all the known characters from the Forgotten Realms universe. I would have liked to have a glimpse of the future of some of the characters towards the end of the book. I also would have liked some of the reveals spread out a little more than wait till the last 25% of the book but that's just my preference since it didn't seem as rushed as I've seen some of the Forgotten Realms books lately. Excellent read, highly recommend if you're a Forgotten Realms fan.

Great tale with some familiar players
The story and humor if Ed Greenwood is quickly apparent is is the sarcastic style of writing that got me started reading in the forgotten realms. This story has enough action to keep it moving quickly, details to full immerse yourself in the world, and humor to keep the story light even as it delves into answering some questions of the current state of the realms.

Forgotten Realms meets murder mystery
Not your run of the mill FR book, it reminds me a little of those Agatha Christie murder mysteries. It's a nice read, even though it doesn't add a lot of lore to the Realms. Enjoyable
