The Tom Mix Cord: Saga of a Western Film Star's Classic Motocar

I bought this book as a birthday present for my 94 year old Father. He has been a Tom Mix fan all his life. He hasn't put it down. Many pictures he had never seen before.The day Tom Mix died , my Dad walked 4 miles into town to get a paper- he couldn't believe Tom Mix died in a car accident. In his words "Tom Mix rode a horse, he didn't drive no car". It just didn't make any sense to his 14 year old self.

This is a remarkable story about an extraordinary car. The book is colorful and well written and provides full details about this car and its notable owner. The story of the car's subsequent fate and its complete restoration to its condition on the day of Tom Mix's fatal accident will appeal to anyone with an interest in classic cars, and what is involved in bringing one back to life.I think Tom Mix would be very pleased to see how his car has fared today.Highly recommended.

I purchased this book on a whim. I thought the photos of the old Cord looked interesting. When I received it I was impressed by the quality, incredible photos and a great look and feel. I was surprised to find that the pictures were accompanied by an interesting and well written story. The author managed to weave a history of Tom Mix- an old cowboy movie star- with the story of his Cord and the authors acquisition and restoration of it.

Great history and background on Tom Mix! The book is well-researched, and there are lots of neat tidbits about how he became a star, and how he strove to be a great example to kids everywhere in all he did. Then.....there is the fabulous car, and it has a story all it's own! It is amazing in word and photographs. Everyone who loves Tom Mix, classic cars and history will love this beautifully written and detailed book!

An excellent, well written, book. It provides not simply a detailed account of the acquisition and restoration of the Tom Mix Cord but a quite accurate and comprehensive biography of Tom Mix. There is also a well researched history of the Cord companies, many one of a kind photographs of Tom Mix, along with extensive photographs of memorabilia from the author's personal collection. The book would certainly be a must have for any Tom Mix or Cord enthusiasts. Anyone interested in the early days of western movies or antique automobiles would also find it valuable. Virtually everything about the book is high quality from the writing, to the graphic art, to the paper used for the pages to the binding. I paid for my book and this review, while perhaps not completely unbiased since I am a Tom Mix fan and quite interested in his history, was neither influenced nor solicited by the author or publisher.

Being somewhat of a Tom Mix fanatic and having seen the car in person I had great expectations for Bob's book, it does not disappoint. A very well told story of the actor, the true King of cowboy actors as well as a real, talented cowboy and generous human being. The tale of restoring this extraordinary work of art, Mix's 1937 Cord model 812 is fascinating. Bob went to great lengths to make sure this famous automobile was restored correctly, the legendary car is once again a gleaming example of the high 1930s style. As the caretaker of this automobile Bob has ensured that it will be properly preserved for future generations. I highly recommend the book.

Didn't know that much about Tom Mix before I read this book. Wow, this was so much fun to read. His car was so cool looking.
