Practical Shamanism: A Guide for Walking in Both Worlds

BUY THIS BOOK whether you think you want it or not because it will benefit you and everyone around you. It is a "must read".I purchased quite a lot of books recently on crystal healing, energy healing, and shamanism. This was the first book to arrive so, naturally, I read it first. How fortunate I was/am.This book is THE perfect introduction to shamanism. It is quickly obvious to the reader that Weatherup is an expert and deeply understands what she is talking about. It is not a new-age mumbo-jumbo book like so many others. Katie writes from both experience and from the heart and she always emphasizes that it is for the good of your inner self and for others. She writes effortlessly and so clearly that you know exactly what she is talking about. You don't have to sit there and noodle on what she said. Instead, it is intuitively obvious what she is teaching you.I have always thought that if I learned one new thing from a book then it was worth the cover price. This book taught me at least one new thing or a new way of thinking in each and every chapter!There is no way I will ever part with this book. It is a permanent part of my library now and I will re-read it at least once a year.Thank you Katie Weatherup. You are a beautiful person inside and out.

This is my favorite book on Shamanism. Katie's writing style is engaging, honest, and to the point. The book has sufficient detail without bogging us down, and her instructions are easy to read, easy to grasp, and organized so they're easy to find in the book.I really like the way she addresses us as modern readers, and talks about the issues we may come across, such as the feeling of a journey seeming like we are making it up. Along with these issues, she encourages us, and states the signs that point at the realness of the experience.This is a great no nonsense book that will take you into journeying in a comfortable manner. I met two of my guides today for the first time. I thought I was going to the Lower World. That was my intent, but my guides pointed out to me, with some laughter, that though that was my verbal intention, my mind brought me to the Upper World to meet them. It was quite an experience!Katie's methods are very similar, if not the same, that other author's recommend, but I really like the way she explains the experience and addresses doubts that may arise.I'm not lending this book out to anyone, so buy your own. It's wonderful, and I highly recommend it!Dana

There is much I liked about this book.The first third of the book is more practical aspects of shamanism and I thought most of it was well done. I found the secret garden part to be a little out of place; I haven't seen that covered in the limited number of books I have read on shamanism. I didn't relate to the idea very well.I found the suggestions for journeys to be helpful. Journeys to the lower, middle, and upper worlds made trying these out easy for me to do.The rest of the book deals with more theory than practice, and I found the theory to be flat and not as well done as I would have hoped. This aspect did not seem deep. It wasn't shallow, just not deep. I kept feeling disappointed and also saying to myself that I really couldn't point to any specific flaw.Bottom line: I connected to the first part of the book, but not thereafter.I a quite open to the idea that this says more about me than about the author.

The author does a fine job of introducing her audience to what for many may find to be an arcane subject matter. As one reads about her personal anecdotes, this reader sensed that they genuinely rang with the truth only gleaned from personal experiences.Overall, the impression this reader came away with is that this author is genuinely knowledgeable, skilled, and caring about her subject matter as well as her readers.

The author has put together a guide that is GOLD! Katie masterfully shows the novice as well as the experienced practitioner, and all of us in between, a way to be as a human and a way to be of use to the world while being in proper alignment. The book is short but don't let the size fool you as it is packed with information. What I truly have enjoyed is every time I read it, more comes through from between the lines, sort of like a transmission from lineage or spirit. I have read quite a few books on Shamanism and have been a long time practitioner and most books I read and pass on. This book has remained in my possession since I purchased it and will continue to do so!

Very beginner friendly, and very gentle with it's introductionsI've had a series of breakthroughs with my own trauma, and feel that i am on a path to being whole and stronger

I went into reading the book with just a basic understanding of what the term “shamanic journeying” meant and left with a much more complete picture, as well as steps to start doing my own journeys. (For the record, I’ve had 3 so far and look forward to many more.) The book falls a little short of 5 stars because it falls apart a bit in the second half and becomes a grab bag of topics. All great info, just not as tight as the first part.

This book truly is for the who wants a deeper spiritual understanding but who lives in this world and wants to stay here. I ordered four other books when I ordered this one - I sent three of them back. They were too traditional for what I was looking for at the time. The book is written in an easy to understand way without arrogance. I have many books on shamanism and this is the best (but also the least "traditional"). Katie gives a simple to follow directions to go on a Shamanic journey - if you try, don't give up - it might take more than one try. I will read this one again.

When I read a book like this I always feel like I want more information about where this all originated from but it seems to be about experiences and I'm not sure if that's just because no one knows where the stuff comes from I would like to know a little bit more about the spirit animals so I will be looking in tomorrow about shamanism

Loved this guide , each section is easy to follow and very instructive and insightful. Can't wait to see if there are more books by Katie weatherup

This is an authentic guide for those who what to deepen their knowledge of spiritual journey and its benefit.Really recommended.

I have not read the entire book because the more advanced subjects were not relevant to me at the time of reading it. However, the introduction and explanation about Shamanism and Shamanic practises was easy to follow and very interesting. I found the journeying quite fascinating. There is far more to Shamanism than I ever imagined. I found the book to be a real eye opener as I did not know very much about Shamanism before reading it. I will certainly return to the book once I have experienced journeying and continue to read the parts I missed out first time round. I particularly liked the bit that explained about journeying and how it is different for each person. Some are able to journey first time round where many others have several attempts before they are successful. This was good to know especially as i have not experienced Shamanic Journeying as yet.I hope you found this review helpful :-)
