The Awakening and Selected Stories (Wordsworth Classics)

Rubbish
This is the worst book I have ever read and I am over 60. The rambling style supposedly describes the inner emotional states of oh so refined ladies but in fact it is a mockery of what a human being is. I only read about thirty pages. I dipped into the book at random just once and found this on page 450 :And yet she loved him - sometimes. Often she had not. What did it matter! What could love, the unsolved mystery, count for in face of this possession of self-assertion which she suddenly recognised as the strongest impulse of her being!'Free! Body and soul free!' she kept whispering.Josephine was kneeling before the closed door with her lips to the keyhole, imploring for admission. "Louise, open the door, I beg! Open the door - you will make yourself ill. What are you doing. Louise? For heaven's sake open the door'.'Go away. I am not making myself ill' No; she was drinking in a very elixir of life through that open window.

good for the price.
great book but quality of the book was not 100% with regards to finishing corner scuffed a couple of pages turned over. My daughter loves receiving her new books in 100% mint condition and this is the first time it didn't happen from Amazon.

Enjoyed The Awakening very much and will read the others ...
Bought this to read The Awakening for our literature group so haven't read the others yet. Enjoyed The Awakening very much and will read the others in this collection at some point. Similar themes to Mme Bovary but very different settings and characters.
