I tried it on a small piece of leather first. And it dyed it on the first coat. I was surprised good stuff.

I am a prop maker for a film company and this gel stainer is a MUST to have in my "craft" box. I have many different colors and use them often. But be warned... it does stain your skin.. but it will eventually fade. But it does the job. I have used this gel without watering it down and REALLY watering the gel down. It works beautifully.

I'm very happy with this dye. I purchased black and brown... and used them to dye a natural cowhide belt I made. I decided to make my own 100%, heavy duty leather belt, because they are hard to find in stores or very expensive. It worked perfectly for my purposes and I've been wearing the belt for a couple of weeks. I wanted a dark, but, somewhat "washed" look. That's exactly how it turned out. I applied a couple of coats to each side and buffed out and applied a beeswax and oil treatment. You can see how to make this at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdhtNFqhQI8. The dye is water soluble, but wear gloves or you'll have dye on your hands for a few days, it's that good.

Got it as a gift, recipient was happy with it.

When I bought and used this product on a Tandy blank from the same seller, I didn't know that you need an additional layer of finisher or conditioner on top of the dye layer. It seems obvious in hindsight, but if you get this dye, also pick up a finishing coat. I picked one up from a Tandy store while visiting family.The dye itself dyes a nice deep black, would recommend.
