This camera works great, batteries last a long time. Pictures are very crisp

I have owned and used only Nikon cameras since the mid-60s. A few years back I bought our first digital camera, a simple point-and-shoot Nikon from the early Coolpix line. Would have like to have gotten a digital SLR this time around, but they're a bit out of my price range, and I really couldn't justify the expense for what would (at this stage and age) be used as a point-and-shoot camera.This seemed to be a wise choice, and it certainly is proving to be more than that.The B500 comes with a 34-page Quick Start Guide. Covers the basics sufficiently to get you started.On-line, from Nikon, you can download a PDF Reference Manual that will take you the rest of the way in 181 pages. Show you how to use the camera the way it's meant to be used.I've prioritized the parts I need to know right away, get to know all the features that will benefit me the most and will take it from there.So far, it's all been very intuitive once you understand the basic settings and controls.All of today's digital cameras (even some "cameras" in phones) have a number of electronically driven tools built-in, likely utilizing the same technology as one another, so I was more concerned with the actual photographic part of it all. Nikon has always been known for its lenses, their quality and acuity, and this part of it just blew me away.Those two pictures I've attached, both loaded into my laptop directly from the memory card: taken at Lake Amador in the northern San Joaquin Valley in California just creeping into the foothills. The first one was taken in the fully automatic mode at a distance of 200 feet. My wife and daughter getting their feet wet by the boat launching ramp. Verified that distance by a topo map of the area and an aerial photo from Google.The second picture, the close-up of our daughter, was taken from the exact same spot at 200 feet away with the zoom at its strongest setting. Also in the fully automatic mode.The editing and retouching tools in the camera mirror some of the same basic tools I have in Corel PaintShop and I was able to increase the saturation and adjust the color balance in the camera easily enough.It's gonna take me a while to discover the full potential of the B500 and I get the feeling it's gonna be a whole lot of fun.Just order a better strap to replace the one that comes with the camera.Other than that, 10 Stars.

I love the zoom feature,as well as the fact that it’s easy to use and results in great photos.

My hubby seems pleased with this camera. Nothing fancy, just clear, clean shots.

Camera is as expected, decent beginners camera. However, sadly the accessories were alot cheaper than expected. Camera bag is a bit small and other items like tripod is very cheaply made.

This was a gift for my lady friend. She is happy with it it takes great pictures and good video.
