My preferred screws
Timco C2 screws do work a lot better than "standard" versions. They bite and grab fast straight in to wood and are much easier to work with when using one hand, cut sharper and more smoothly. They're fine with raw plugs and hold together under stress when using an impact driver. They aren't stainless steel but are definitely less prone to rusting outdoors than standard, uncoated screws.
