Was this supposed to be a loose leaf book?
Bought the book because it was required for class... but pages are literally falling out. It was like the printer forgot the glue. By page 21, 8 sheets came completely detaged just turning the page, and I bought it new :/

An Enjoyable Textbook
A fantastic book and a great start for anyone wanting to learn about markets. I really enjoyed this as a textbook and finished the book on my own. A well-written and detailed companion to any markets class.

Fantastic Textbook!
This textbook is for a course I took at NC State. The subject matter was something that was semi-new to me, as I really did not know a whole lot about markets (particularly futures and options markets) prior to taking this course. This book is fantastic! It was extremely easy to follow along with, while at the same time allowed me to gain a vast amount of knowledge. I really liked and appreciated the fact that Carter listed references and websites for following up at the end of each chapter, as this was really helpful. Although they were not required for my course, I also very much appreciated the questions that Carter had at the end of each chapter, as they were not too elementary, yet not to overly complicated. They allowed me to really think about what I had just learned and make sure I fully understand concepts. With all this in mind if I did not fully understand something, I could search for it in the text, read about it, answer questions that actually related to me understanding the material, utilize references listed at the end of the chapters and if I still was having trouble, I could use the websites listed as ways of further understanding. There is no way you can read and utilize this book without learning and understanding what is shared. As I now hope to pursue a career in risk management and markets (or something related to that) I know that the knowledge I gained with the help of this book will help to carry me throughout my career. This book is one that I foresee myself continuously using. On a more technical note, it is a very sturdy book, with thicker pages than most. You can highlight things without the ink running through to the other side. It is bound very well and has not shown any signs of coming loose. It is a small book, which made it easy to carry to class or around campus with me (not something I normally do). It did however, manage to survive the wear and tear of my backpack this semester and is still in great shape.Even if you are someone who is weary of purchasing textbooks, because you never use them. This book is worth it. If your instructor never even assigns something for you to read, this text is well worth the money for a reference at the very least.

Great book to learn about the derivatives market!
I took Professor Carter's class in fall 2015. This was a such great book to learn about the futures market and its fundamentals as well as its history. Now that I am working in the industry, I still refer back to some of the basics which I learned in this book. Overall a great book for those who want to learn about the derivatives market!

Strongly recommend!
As an introduction book of futures and options market, I strongly recommend this one out of all. Professor Carter's book will never be tedious to read, for words are strictly follow the logic and really clear. Even as for not a native speaker like me, I feel no obstacle to understand the meaning of every single sentence. To be frank, this is not a book to teach you how to make your first million dollars but to clarify how futures and options market work (theory and cases). It benefits for both professionals and amateurs.

I've been looking for a good text in this area
As someone who is moving into scholarly research on futures markets, I've been looking for a good text in this area. After weeks of searching, Carter's book is by far and away the most lucid introduction to derivatives markets that I've encountered. It is very well written and it is comprehensive in scope. An excellent read.
