Maverick L.A.P.D. officer Roger Mortis (Treat Williams) is a good cop who will do anything to nail the bad guys. Even if he's got to die for it in this off-beat comedy thriller. Investigating some frightening goings-on, Mortis and his partner, Doug Bigelow (Joe Piscopo), pay a visit to Dante Laboratories. It is here that they discover the high-tech Resurrection Room churning out a weird band of recycled and indestructible criminals. And it is here that Mortis meets his untimely death. But, hey, if you can’t beat ‘em, join’em. Police work is tough enough without having to tangle day after day with the same dead criminals; two can play this zombie game.

An underrated cult gem on DVD!!!
This is the story of two L.A. detectives Roger Mortis ( Treat Williams) and Doug Bigelow ( Joe Piscopo) who are solving crimes caused by undead criminals caused by a mysterious medical company that has a machine that resurrects the dead into zombies. Roger unfotunately gets killed, but he gets brought back to life but only for 13 hours before he can decompose into dust, he must solve his own homicide and find the mastermind behind it.A highly entertaining, gory and funny mixture of sci-fi, horror, action, buddy cop and comedy with great make-up and monster effects by Steve Johnson, Vincient Price and Darren Mcgavin ( A Christmas Story) co-star as the bad guys who own the medical company. There is also plenty of action, witty humor, a memorable Chinese butcher shop scene involving undead meat, gore, and a nice twist in the end. This DVD offers excellent picture and sound quality all thanks to Anchor Bay's Divamax, great extras such as deleted scenes ( Scenes that had to avoid the X rating when this movie came out in 1988), Commentary by the director and writer, Poster-and-still gallery, Original storyboard art, MIFED promo, Widescreen, theatrical trailer.I recommend this movie to fans of zombie movies, action flicks and horror comedies.Similar movies recommended: " L.A. An 80s hidden gem of a zombedy “buddy cop” movie. So much fun!
MY CALL: This is more of a hard-R cop movie with healthy doses of humor than a horror movie… but there are zombies… and it does get gory and gross. This gets a pretty strong recommendation from me. It’s a lot of fun.Director Mark Goldblatt (The Punisher) opens this film in the classic trappings of a lower budget Lethal Weapon (1987) as we meet stylish cop Roger Mortis (Treat Williams; Deep Rising, Night of the Sharks) and his loose cannon partner Doug (Joe Piscopo). Despite their differences, they get along and share a propensity for mean street violence. What’s nice about this movie is that it feels like a gritty, buddy cop movie first and a horror movie second, such that the writing and characters are richer and better written. When our cops look into a recent diamond heist in which the robbers seem immune to bullets, it is discovered that they had received autopsies at the local morgue prior to committing crime! Following a lead on some chemical traces, Roger and Doug look into a pharmaceutical company with a few undead secrets. Daughter to a recently deceased pharmaceutical business mogul (Vincent Price; From a Whisper to a Scream), Randi (Lindsay Frost; The Ring) handles PR for this zombie company. Our first zombie encounter is with a monstrous, split-faced mongoloid which makes for an entertaining (even if clunky) fight scene in the pharmaceutical lab. Subsequent encounters with gun-toting zombie criminals bring more gunplay than brain-eating. I quite enjoyed the re-animated butcher shop creatures, with some action smacking hard of Re-Animator (1985). We also see a rapid decomposition before our eyes, and it is delightfully gross and full of flesh melty goodness! The best effect of the movie! After dying and being resurrected himself, Roger degenerates more and more, and by the end of the movie he looks worse than Bill Paxton from Near Dark (1987). And with this look, we find some good humor as well. Not sure how this movie evaded my attention for so many decades. I always knew it existed, but just never got around to it. And now that I have, I find it to be a pleasantly surprising forgotten gem of the 80s. So to fans of the 80s, this is strongly recommended.

A Buddy Cop Movie With Zombies; Does It Get Any Better?
This is the epitome of the type of movie Anchor Bay releases on DVD, crisp, clean, clear and celestial. Dead Heat is by far a cult movie that can be seen as both an action and horror movie. Our leads, LAPD detectives Roger Mortis (Treat Williams) and Doug Bigelow (Joe Piscopo) are investigating crimes, which are being committed by people who are deceased. When Roger is killed during the investigation, he is brought back to life, by the same element that is resurrecting these criminals, to solve the mystery. The movie itself isn't suppose to be taken seriously, at least that is how I watched it. Joe Piscopo provides many one liners that are really funny, and one liners can be hard to pull off. Treat Williams also provides some dry and wry humor. It's cool that Vincent Price was in this movie, which gives it the official horror stamp of approval. There are plenty of dummies, fake blood, and cheesy effects to keep you going. It also has this buddy cop vibe to it, now it isn't Lethal Weapon or anything, but still a buddy cop movie. The sour cream on the taco is it was made in the 1980s! So if you love those late night cop movies and have a taste for things that are undead, you get them both in the same eighty-four minutes!

One of the original buddy movies
It has that wisecracking buddy-movie archetype, AND Vincent Price, AND zombies.

Love it!!! The movie was just like I remembered! Haven't seen this in years. My brother and I would quote lines from this movie from when we were younger.

What a movie!
No CGI, practical effects rock! Just a fun horror comedy with some great lines. You can tell the people making this had a great time. This was made before movies had to constantly think about the "fallout" from jokes etc. You can really have a good time with this flick. Enjoy!

Empfehlung
Empfehlung.

Silly horror comedy from the 80's
Hilarious movie from my childhood! Don't think I've seen it in over 20 years, but amused me just as much now as it did then!! Also love the cameo from Vincent Price, just adds a little class 👍

Classic
Sure, it's not blu-ray. Sure, the jokes are bad the story is ...off. But it was great fun in the 80's and I loved taking the walk down memory lane. Product was delivered quickly and without difficulty

Sonst kaum in Erscheinung getreten. Was will man denn mehr? kurzweilig und unterhaltsam.
