This is the best tool for smoothing rims and edges without raising grog. I have seen people say you can get other things to use cheaper but I couldn't care less. This sponge does the job and does it right. I use it every single time I make something with clay. I am ordering a second one as a backup because I cannot imagine being without one. Haha, the first time I went to buy one, I was at a brick and mortar store. When I picked it up I found it to be a piece of dried-out cardboard, so I said "no thank you." I was soooo wrong. These hydrate into the best finishing sponge ever!

It really does just smooth away any imperfections without distorting your piece

The sponge worked really well. I'm not sure how long it'll last, so that's the unfortunate part, but I did use it on an epoxy clay - which is notoriously hard to smooth. It did not do a perfect job, but that's the nature of the clay, not the sponge. The sponge did NOT remain dirty, as I thought would be a huge problem, seeing as it is white and most clays are grey. Even the epoxy clay came out, after just gently and easily moving the clay from the center. It's like it magically moved to the edges and then rinsed out.It remains pristine white, and after the last wash, I squeezed out as much water as I could. It now is almost as flat as it arrived, and JUST as hard. It's a good tool, we will see how long it lasts, but so far, was worth getting!

The 3 different colors available on the Amazon site are different smoothness. The blue is the roughest and white is the smoothest. I love the white one for making the piece silky smooth!
