What an underrated, amazing book!
This book is just amazing. What a great collection of informational and entertaining tidbits. I'm so glad I bought this book. I want to start collecting all of the almanacs of the past, but it is so nice to have a book that at least covers some of the content mentioned in each of the old books. Especially because some are quite expensive and I know I likely won't be able to afford them.I got this book today and I just can't put it down. It's one of those times where you can't stop reading but are already a bit sad for the book to be over.Really such a good book. How it doesn't have more reviews is beyond me. This is "better" than some of the books with 1000+ reviews (in my opinion of course).I consider this an absolute must read. And it's such a good price for what you are getting.Wanted to edit to add some more specific information, the type of info I would like to get to make up my mind on a purchase. I also added 2 pictures, so you can see how some of the page layouts look like and what kind of awesome artwork you can expect. This book covers multiple different types of short stories from around the world. It gives information on gods/goddesses, for example Diana. It also has some old magazine articles from the years the almanac was published in. You also get recipes for food, spells etc. It's just such a good resource. There have been many times I literally said "aaaaah aha!" because something was covered and I just learned something new. I read a review about the almanac somewhere, where the person was saying it is very american-tradition oriented or something to that effect, but I really can't say that. I'm german, albeit living in massachusetts, but I really place a lot of value on certain books covering worldwide traditions, not just the us. This book does that. As you can see I added a picture of the Walpurgisnacht article. It was short but nice to see germany represented. This book has given me some smiles and aha-moments and I'm not yet done with it, it's so good I actually started highlighting in it (sacrilege!) and slapping sticky notes in it, as you can see in my pictures. I used the frixion highlighters, just in case I need to remove anything, but I don't see myself needing to.This book is really good. The fact that the articles are short, really keeps your attention and is a nice way to give a short intro to a topic you may find you want to research further. And it's easy to read while you are waiting somewhere or on the go.I think this book, at the very least, is entertaining for anyone, not just practitioners. But I find it to be a treasure and am so glad I got it. I told my mom the other day this may be the best book I ever bought, if not it's definitely the best one I've bought in a long time, measuring by how much information it gives and how entertaining it is to read (plus awesome artwork!).If you are on the fence, get it, you won't regret it.
