The Brinkman stairs are great for a small dog
Like other reviewers we had come to that sad place in our lives when it was obvious that our 17 lb Pomeranian needed help getting on and off the bed. He is 11 now, still extremely fit and active and is a terrific athlete but had an accident last year jumping too enthusiastically off the bed and slamming into another piece of furniture. I had made many starts and stops in this direction to solve the problem. We do have a fairly high bed and I had started with just a box for an intermediary step but that did not work. Finally after looking at many pet stairs I settled on the Brinkman. Eddie does not like stairs in general, perhaps because our's from first to second floor are just wood and going down them are hard for him. So introducing another set of stairs to him provided another challenge. For a few days he would do his best to avoid the new Brinkman stairs. Now he uses them daily going up onto the bed and off without coaching, and we never used to treats to encourage him to incorporate them into his routine. I am very relieved that he seems to recognize that these stairs greatly enhance his life as he is not putting pressure on his hips by jumping on and off the high bed.I like the stairs because they are light, are covered by a soft and removable, washable cover and relatively attractive. I had not discovered that it was only corrugated cardboard under the material but glad to know this as it might have deterred me from making the purchase as to the product's longevity.I agree with the lab owner who says the staris are too small for a large dog. Even our dog at 17 pounds I notice approaching these stairs with caution, taking his time to manage each step for fear of falling off. They do seem narrow and not deep or wide enough. The set with one more step would have been more useful because for at least a week as the top of the stair did not come to the top of bed there was always uncertainty that he could jump up from that last step, more like a large reach from the stair to the bed. Perhaps it was the puffy bedding that made it seem treacherous but it just didn't seem high enough. In summary I am delighted that we have solved the problem of Eddie jumping on and off the bed. I even notice that he easily uses the stairs in the middle of the night to get a drink of water. I can hear him go down the stairs, drink the water ( we have a bowl of fresh water in the bedroom) and then use the stairs to get back on the bed. This convinces me that he has completely adjusted to them and also recognizes their benefit and is not just using them in our presence to appease us.However, I would caution anyone with a larger dog to perhaps consider a sturdier, larger, wider set because if I were a large dog I would find these stairs too light, perhaps flimsy, too narrow and unmanageable for the weight of anything larger than perhaps 20-25 lbs. We don't have a cat, but I would imagine a cat would not find a problem with these stairs and would prefer this Brinkman set as to one that did not provide the soft cover.

five star I am sure for small pets but I have a lab
So I have a great chocolate lab who has arthritis, and so I have been meaning to get her stairs to make it easier for her to get on and off the bed. This product is rated for 200 lbs so I bought it. What I like about is it is light, plush, has a removable cover, and is compact. What I don't like about it, is for a dog about her size or bigger (about 75 pounds), it needs to be wider and the stair tread depth needs to be deeper. My dog was able to use this after an hour of training (but my dog is ridiculously smart :)). However, because of what I said it is not easy for her. Also I have a relatively high bed, so the steps only go up to the bottom of the mattress which I thought before ordering would be alright, since the last step could technically be the mattress, but this is part of what she is struggling with. Eventually I will buy a bigger one if she continues to have problems, but for now she can use it if she goes slow and is careful, and it is taking a huge amount of pressure off her back legs, now that she no longer has to jump up and off the bed. If you have a small dog or an old cat, I would say you can't go wrong, but I can't say I personally recommend this, unless price is a huge factor in making your decision. This is an update. I have a very high bed so I have the stairs flipped so they reach higher. Using the stairs this way is why the depth of the treads appears to not be adequate to support her going up and down easily. However, unless you have a very low bed or a couch (and have the steps positioned as pictured) this still is not an adequate height for the dog to get up on a bed (as I said I had it flipped and it still only reached the bottom of my mattress). Additionally, the width is still about 6 inches too narrow for a dog of her size or larger too comfortably use. Though she uses it daily she still struggles with it and does not like it. Although, the alternative of letting her just jump up is not an option with her condition. Finally, I removed the cover and though it is very sturdy this is simply made of corrugated cardboard under the cover and nothing else. So here is a new update, as I mentioned I flipped the stairs so they could be used with the height of my bed, but what I did not realize is that since it is corrugated cardboard, by flipping it the part which became the treads was the open honey comb of the corrugation. This resulted in further instability, however with some cardboard cut to match the improvised treads and some duct tape (to hold in place) it solves that problem (however still too narrow for a big dog but she still uses it but occasionally slips and is not happy to do so).

Great for dogs who need to not be jumping!
Exactly what we needed and sturdy enough for our spaniel. Occasionally will tip slightly when our pick treads right on the edge but not a huge drama. We got this as our dog is recovering from ACL surgery and we are trying to discourage him jumping up - these are just the right thing.

Perfect for my old boys
The media could not be loaded. This is great. My wiener dogs are 14yo and I just got a new bed which is impossible for them to get on and I was afraid they would jump off.I love these stairs because they’re not massive like the plastic or wood ones and I love that they are grey instead of all the beige and brown ones I saw. They were afraid to use them when I just got them. It took about 2 weeks for the boys to get comfortable but now, they go up and down the bed as they please safely :)

Excellent Quality
I bought these steps to help my ageing Burmese get on and off my lap as I am sitting in my chair. Her mobility has been decreasing recently and she was finding it difficult to not be with me. Now, the most loving kitty in the world has her autonomy back and can easily navigate up and down these well-made steps! These are solid construction, I have already removed the cover to make sure it will be easy to look after and even that has exceeded my expectations. The non-slip pads on the bottom are working great even with my slippery hardwood floor! The above is a picture of my kitty, moments after I set the steps down. Let SNUGGLE TIME resume!

Exactly what I wanted!
Just needed something so my frenchie/boston mix could get on, and off, my bed (without me having to lift him all the time). Used treats to get him using the stairs for the first few days. Within a week, he was going up and down without being coaxed. The stairs were assembled....are extremely light....and easy to move. Excellent product!
