One of Dahl's best books gets the comic treatment
If there's anyone who's completely unfamiliar with the story (even though it has now gotten two film adaptions) here's the basic plot: a young boy (whose name we never learn, although in the first film he was called Luke) is recently orphaned after his parents suffer a tragic, untimely death and he is sent to live with his grandma. His granny tells him that witches are real, and, unlike in fairy tales and movies like "Wizard Of Oz", they do NOT wear black cloaks and hats or ride of flying broomsticks, but look like perfectly ordinary women. And this makes them all the more dangerous, because they HATE children and their goal in life is to exterminate as many kids as possible. The grandma also gives the boy some tips on how to spot a witch, for example witches always wear gloves to hide their clawed hands. Then one day they take a trip to a hotel. While there the boy sneaks off to play with his pet mice in an empty meeting room. While hiding behind a curtain the room suddenly fills with a large group of women who claim to be holding a meeting to help prevent cruelty to children. While in his hiding place the boy makes a horrifying discovery: the women are actually witches! And not only that, their leader the Grand High Witch is making a plan to not only kill children, but ALL the children in England! Her plot is to have her followers open up candy shops in every city and town in the country, then sprinkle in a formula that will turn the kids into mice, who will then be killed by their own parents and teachers not knowing the mice are their own children. The witches demonstrate this when a child who was given a chocolate bar by the Grand High Witch with just a drop of the potion enters the room, having been promised more chocolate. Soon after entering the potion takes effect and the kid turns into a mouse. The witches are about to leave, but then one smells out the boy who was hiding. They capture him and force him to drink an entire bottle of the potion, causing the transformation to occur instantly, and the boy is soon a mouse. After escaping, the two kids-turned-mice run back to the boy's hotel room and (thankfully still possessing the ability to speak) they tells his grandmother what happened. Now it's up to the two mouse children and the boy's grandma to save the children of England from the witches diabolical plot...but can they succeed? If you enjoy fantasy adventure with just a touch of darkness, you should definitely give this a read. It does take a few minor liberties with Dahl's original story. (For example, in Dahl's book the two kids who get turned into mice were both boys, in this version it's a boy and a girl), but if that doesn't bother you too much, you'll have lots of fun.

Blast from the past..
I saw the new trailer for the remake of "the Witches" and was immediately transported back to my childhood. It read it in elementary school and was so excited when the movie was made with Angelica Houston. I immediately looked for the book for my neice so she could experience the feeling and we could rewatch the original before the new one aired. She read this with excitement in 2 days, probably would have been a day if she had opened it earlier. Was a great adaptation of the traditional book and an easy enjoyable read. Would love if more books did this! We've already watched the original on Netflix, can't wait for the new one on Oct. 22!Was delivered fast and in great condition.

Solid Graphic Novel
I've loved The Witches for a very long time, ever since we read it out loud in 5th grade English class. I encourage my own students to read it and usually read a part of it for them during book talks every Halloween. I do like this graphic novel interpretation. The illustrations are pretty great and expressive. The changes to the novel were fine, and I thought overall that it was a fun new way to enjoy a fantastic book.

Roald Dahl meets graphic art - success!
Creating a graphic novel with Dahl’s quirky characters and fresh dialogue is a genius move. I loved the story and read the novel on my device in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down. A picture really is worth a thousand words.

6 year old loved it!
My son absolutely loved this book! I was so excited to read it to him because I was such a fan of Roald Dahl when I was a kid and wanted him to experience his great books as well. He begged me to read more pages every day and even when it wasn't story time. Then we watched the movie together. Fantastic re-do of the original even if it is missing a few things and some things had been changed

A brilliant graphic adaptation of a Roald Dahl classic
Beautifully presented hardback with great interior artwork. I’m a comic fan and loved the movie as a kid, I saw this come up in the comic book Previews and couldn’t wait to buy. My kids have my same enthusiasm for comics as well as all things spooky. Completely captivated my 5 year old daughter who couldn’t wait to read more as soon as she got home from school! We read together in a few days and my 4 year old son wants to start from the beginning now. It’s not too text heavy and requires one to really feel into the story with the images working well as a read aloud with some fun voices and expressions. The panels seamlessly flow and capture the story progression effortlessly. I know I’m a reluctant reader and I’m sure the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree but this helped me work to build my daughters vocabulary with a few big words whilst enjoying wonderful illustrations and a great edge of your seat story. Maybe not suitable for all little ones but my genre is horror and whilst I think the old movie would be too scary, this was kid friendly enough for my little terrors! Now I need to find more graphic novels like this as this really helped me and my kids connect where reading books hasn’t managed before.
