Subversive Cross Stitch: 33 Designs for Your Surly Side

I wanted an introduction to cross-stitch that wasn't fussy, all the other books I could find just had pictures of simpering cats and baby samplers, not exactly appropriate for me. This book is the great antidote to all those cheesy staples of this craft. I'm currently working on one of the popular sweary pieces, which makes me giggle as I stitch.It gives you a little run down at the beginning of the book about the cross stitch basics - what cloth, needles and thread to use. Then it's many pages of patterns, along with a finished design. The designs are fun as well as pretty and creative, she's really tried to match the wording with some lovely patterns.I showed this book to my work mates, they all had a good laugh at the patterns.

Subversive Cross Stitch is a refreshing take on cross stitched samplers. The patterns are large, easy to read and attractive. Very simple and quick to complete. The best thing about the designs is that they're so easy to adapt - you can simply mix and match little motifs or add your own subversive message to produce your own original, irreverant heirlooms. Whilst reading Julie Jackson's charts you find new ideas popping into your head. Loads of fun.

Not for the faint hearted, the fab and funny patterns in this book are very tempting. The only thing is to make sure you have friends and family with the right sense of humour, and best not to make any for yourself if you have young kids.Even if you don't make any of the patterns, it's a great book to flick through and have a chuckle to yourself. Rather than copy the patterns to the last stitch I have used them to help me design my own.

Simple stitches , provocative slogans. Pithy phrases. Very easy even if you are a first time embroiderer. Not enough of a challenge for me. Basic alphabet, quick to complete, very simple to adapt for your own favourite catch-phrases. Would be easy to make into badges or patches for clothing or tote bags.

the book arrived in excellent condition and I can only summise this was because the previous buyer like myself was disappointed in the content. the book is described as cross stitch for your sassy self. it should be cross stitch for your rude self. Had I seen the book I would not have bought it, nothing sassy just swearing and sad.

What a delight! Having bought a few patterns from website, this book had loads more sassy cross stitch to keep me busy. Love it!
