Comet CP-5M lip mount w/Comet CSB770A Dual-band Antenna
Absolutely outstanding performance. Regularly work my home repeater from 40 miles away using only 20w. At 50w my range extends to 55 miles.

An excellent product.
An excellent mount for my VW Bug hatch, fits perfect, good hardware and simple to install, love the adjustments to keep the antenna perfectly vertical. And the skinny lead in coax is perfect for the entry, no leaks and its been working great now for a month.

Don't be afraid to take it apart to reverse it
Used it to install a Comet CA-2x4SR onto the liftgate of a Jeep Renegade. The mount can be disassembled to reverse pieces of it, which let me orient it where it clears the taillight. I was also able to orient it where it's possible to temporarily orient the antenna vertically when the liftgate is raised, for tailgating while operating. The way the cable necks-down allows it to fit through the keyhole slot where the hatch bump-stop threads in, and the way the PL-259 connector comes apart it was relatively easy to fish it through the liftgate, the rubber connector between the liftgate and the vehicle body, and then above the headliner and behind the D-pillar plastic over to where the antenna is mounted. I had perhaps a meter more cable than was required for this install.SWR when paired wth this antenna was in the 1.0 to 1.01 range on 2m and 70cm and signal reports have been quite positive. This mount with cable seems to be a good combination with this antenna and FTM-500.I actually chose the kit based on the Comet 730 specifically because there's that single point of failure in the form of one of the bolts that attaches to the base. If we're four wheeling and snag a tree branch I'd rather that the mount break than the liftgate be torn up.

Awesome lip mount for my Escape
I purchased this mount to go with my Diamond CR8900 Diamond CR-8900 Quad Band 10m/6m/2m/70cm Mobile Antenna (PL259) w/ 3 Yr Warranty and I have to say I was afraid it would not do well with such a beefy antenna but I have to say this is a really well built quality product and I am very pleased with it so far. I also like like how it has a thumb screw on the side that you can loosen and fold over your antenna. It has been on my vehicle for three months so far with no issues.

so easy to install on my BMW
Awesome. Easy to install, no movement to rub paint. The functionality is wonderful due to the ability to move an antenna up or down as your circumstance requires, the top portion pivots. My Ham antenna shows perfect reception.

Great mount but wish manufactures would put a little more effort into their product
This little lip mount was easy to install on my Subaru Forester 2010. Be sure that you ground it properly if you decide to buy it. Ask your local hams for help if you need help installing it, that’s what they’re for.My only concern was what I’ve been seeing a lot with newer uhf style connectors, and that is that manufacturers are not filling the part that separates the inner conductor and outer with much. There is nothing but air and a small bit of plastic between the outer and center conductor. I’m concerned how well this mount will hold up in the weather over the long haul, but I haven’t heard any complaints from others. Also I checked just now my magnount has the same issue and it’s been holding up for about 4 years now.

Don't buy this if you value your equipment
I had high expectations for this coming from comet. Usually they have good products, but not this one.I mounted this on my Nissan Altima trunk for an MFJ 1538. Initially it seemed to be working well, but after an electrical storm, my tyt 9800 receive was fried. No chump change in this loss. I then hooked up a cheap leixan and then that got fried. (This was after i had to get a replacement coax assembly from comet because that came apart) in neither case did i get directly hit by lightning. Turns out that after grounding the mount directly, the antenna would not function. Remove the ground and it works again. This test is the basis for my assessment. The mount system can only ground through the radio. So if you get any emp or surge, the car's chassis does not absorb, it goes through your radio and burns out whatever is in it's way.I should have went with my first inclination to drill a 5/8" hole and direct mount like i did with my ford explorer and another MFJ 1538 for my yeasu ft8900r and avoided the price of this plus $400 in radio equipment.Save your money. Get something that grounds properly or direct mount your so-239 and NMA antennas.

Must Scrape Paint
I tried to ignore the other reviews and just installed this mount right out of the box. Sure enough, my mobile radio couldn’t transmit at all.So I did what everyone else has to do, and disassembled the entire mount and used a dremmel to scrape powder coat and paint off every screw thread and washer; anywhere two pieces of the mount touched, I took the paint off. Then I put it back together and checked with a multi-meter to make sure there was continuity all the way through the mount. Finally I was able to re-install it and my radio worked. If you do not do this, your mount will absolutely not ground itself and your radio will not work.Otherwise, a great, versatile, and rugged piece of hardware.
