An awesome collection of the work of an under-appreciated groundbreaker
So great! A lifetime’s supply of stuff by the gospel-shouting, guitar-wailing genius — including a live recording of the concert she gave at her 1951 wedding in a DC Negro League ballpark that was promoted by the owner of Ringling Brothers — for less than the price of two lattes and a cruller. Joy!

The Queen of Rock 'N' Roll
For any musician who wants to hear the real roots of rock 'n' roll, you need this collection. I like to share videos of Sister Rosetta with other musicians have never heard of her and tell them that their love of music is about to be elevated. When they get back in touch with me, I tell them, "Without Sister Rosetta, there would have been no Chuck Berry."

Sister Rosetta Had No Equal
Every song is a gem. And every town should have a statue in Sister Rosetta's honor. I was different after hearing her.

This music makes you believe in God.
She is as important to 20th Century music as Bix, Howlin Wolf, Chuck Berry, and Sonny Rollins. Her notes are utterly wild, with chords and odd scales that defy pop music logic. Her singing is simply overpowering- just matchless. Her influences are everywhere, from Rockabilly and the Rolling Stones to Isaiah Sharkey. Listening to her reminds us that Elvis, whom she strongly influenced, was actually great for a time. If the human race endures, her artistic legacy will also.

An excellent and important document despite an inauspicious start
The first two albums here are far more subdued than the rest and will mostly be of interest to gospel aficionados. The rest are in the more upbeat style Tharpe was known for. She was a profound early influence on rock 'n' roll and a trailblazer for women. She not only possessed a great voice, but also guitar skills that elevated her above most of her contemporaries, male and female. She hasn't received the recognition that Elvis and Chuck Berry have, although at the time of writing she is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee.

Am underappreciated artist
Very good collection of an artist deserving far more recognition. They clearly didn't know what to do with her. Some you hear them trying to package her like Mahalia Jackson. She bet live, raw, and rocking with abandon.

GREAT infused gospel material which actually influenced some of the pioneers in the early years of Rock & Roll!

Umwerfend!
