Give it a hot bath
I put the mat in a bathtub about half full of hot water and it was super pliable in less than 5 minutes. Laid it flat on the bathroom floor bottom side up to dry for half an hour. It is a thick, stiff mat but if your carpet is thick you will need the even thicker, stiffer, much more expensive mat. It's simple physics. I used a jig saw to cut out a corner to fit a desk with a side return. It's too tough for a knife (unless it was pre-warmed?).

Almost satisfied
**My take on this product**When they say that it works for Medium Pile carpet, they are being a little generous. I'm not sure if anyone really likes to think of their carpet as being "high pile" or "deep pile" or whatever that is, since shag carpet is out of style. If you have fairly long carpet, but still within the realm of normal carpet, this mat might not be stiff enough for you. I have a couple of pretty normal $100 and $250 value office chairs with five wheels on each one, and their wheels kind of sink into depressions that they press into the mat, which hinders smooth rolling a little. It doesn't seem to be leaving permanent dents, they come back out again on their own between work sessions, but it's less than ideal. Despite the denting problem, I think getting a better mat that is even thicker than this one would be significantly more expensive (maybe over double the cost), so if you have medium or longish carpet, you might need to get a really thick, more expensive mat to be fully satisfied. In that way, there aren't necessarily mats out there that are significantly better *value* than this one. If you want heavier, you'll have to pay *a lot more* for it.**Unrolling tips**Some of the other reviewers talked about this mat being difficult to unroll. It is, but here's what I did and it worked for me, and I did it alone:1.) Get several very heavy things into the area where you are going to use the mat (toolboxes, boxes full of books, stacks of books, full plastic storage containers, small pieces of furniture, etc.). These things should weigh like 25 lbs each or more.2.) Unpack the mat, put the stubborn roll on your floor, and get yourself ready for yoga-like physical maneuvers. If you are a small person who isn't very strong, have a medium or large person help you. Move your heavy stuff over to be within arms reach, and prepare for sliding each item onto your mat one-handed.3.) Step on one side of the mat with your two feet. Spread your feet apart quite a bit.4.) Push the roll flat as much as you can with your hands, and slide the heavy things onto it wherever you can, and continue unrolling. Move the heavy objects toward the corners as you unroll. Use your feet until you can put things where your feet are.5.) Leave everything there for like two hours.6.) Drag it under your desk into final position with the stuff still sitting on it. This could be a little awkward due to the studs on the underside.7.) Get your office chair onto it, remove some of the heavy things, and start using your office chair with a couple of the heavy things still there.8.) A day later, take the rest of the heavy stuff off, and you'll be fine.I did these things in a room air conditioned to 70F. Another reviewer said that leaving the mat outside in the sun didn't help, so don't worry about temperature too much.**Other advantages/features**The studs on the bottom seem to do a good job of preventing slipping and movement of the mat. The mat tapers a little on the edges to help the chair to roll on and off of the edges of the mat. This mat is distinctly thicker than the cheapest of office mats, despite what I said above. My caliper measures 0.125" on the tapered edge, and 0.15" thick away from the edge, and then the studs protrude about 1/8" more. The mat is very clear, and has a slight texture on the top surface. The studs are slightly sharp cone shaped spikes.**Summary**If you have pretty deep carpet, are really picky about product quality, and are willing to spend the big bucks, get a thicker, more expensive mat than this one. You won't need to worry about unrolling it, they ship/store the thicker ones flat. If your budget is closer to the value of this mat, you are less picky, and/or you have "short-medium" carpet, get this one.

Great
The bonus for me with getting this floor mat was that it was shipped flat. No need to work on uncurling it. Simply slide it out of its cardboard box and put it on the floor and it's ready to serve its purpose.

It's okay but hey it's a piece of plastic.
It's between "it's okay" and "I like it." Size is as described. They deliver it flat wrapped in cardboard. There was a noticeable defect where part of the plastic had been melted or brushed against something. I had to use scissors and a file to smooth it out. The good thing about the packaging unlike office stores is that there is no sticker to remove and you don't have to let it rest after laying it flat. The plastic is very soft too. Just the weight of the chair along leaves imprints. I'm hoping that over time these will even out.

Great mat for my carpeted office!
I bought this for my home office as I just got new carpet....I like it and it seems to be doing the trick. My only negative thought is how it arrives - rolled up! Mine still has not flattened out! Maybe they could roll it loosely in half like a taco and it would fair better when arriving at destination. I like it though and glad I got it!

Not Suited for 3/8" carpet
I bought this type of mat from Office Depot years ago and they lasted for about 10 years before I decided to replace them. The wheels of the chair were digging into the mat. I bought this mat base on reviews for medium carpet up to 3/8". I measured the depth of my carpet with a paper clip and it was right at 3/8". Both my office chair and my hobby bench stool would create dripples and mini ruts in the matt. I used the matt on the desk and replaced it with a glass mat. From my experience if you are going to use this matt on a carpet do not go any deeper than 1/4" and I think that may be too much. The bottom spikes don't secure to the carpet and my matt slides where it is canted when facing the desk. I am sure this will work on low carpet but I wouldn't recommend this for medium or deeper carpet.

Bought a second one
I liked the first one enough to buy a second one. Repeat purchase is the best review possible. They don't recommend it, but I cut one to fit my space using a fine pitch hack saw. I saw something saying they recommend buying a custom size from them, but the website does not make it easy to do this.

Allow time to flatten and works well.
Satisfied with the mat. But can’t rush the flattening. Delivery was during extreme cold weather. It was not damaged and flattened out perfectly.
