Wish this was around when I joined!
I really enjoyed reading this guide. The content is accurate in references to standards and instructions we as service members follow on a daily basis. In my own humble opinion I do not think it matters if you have been in the military for 5, 10, 15, 20+ years as the world around us changes daily we need to stay smart on the subjects mentioned in AJ’s book. That being said I feel this book would have been great to have when I first joined and I plan on purchasing a few to have on hand for newly assigned Amn to help guide them in their new military environment as well as newly promoted NCO’s to guide them in their supervisory roles.I gave the book five stars as the author AJ Kehl covered what is really important in regards to “Maximizing Your Enlistment”. He covered what is taught to us and preached to us in regards to awards, promotions, task importance, etc. and without a filter uncovers the truth and BS in some of the processes.Recommend anyone currently serving or anyone thinking about joining the service regardless of being enlisted or commissioned to get this book!

Good for junior enlisted
Got this book on a recommendation buy a peer and while I can obviously tell a lot of work went into the book, personally took away very little because I've been in long enough to accumulate this knowledge myself. I will say, however, that younger Airmen would benefit from knowing about a lot of things up front (such as the education and benefits portions) rather than missing out on things due to ignorance or trial/error like many of us on the senior enlisted side in our younger years.

BLUF: Wish I had this 20 years ago!
Lots of great advice! A wealthy resource for Airmen who may or may not have mentors, or effective supervisors or leaders. Lots of great tips (love the post it board with do/doing/done). I was always big on encouraging my Airmen to invest and go to school—because no matter how much the Air Force takes out of you, those two things are allll yours. Lots of great education and financial management advice in here. Always great to read Chief Lewis’ words of wisdom as a guest in this book. A few misspelled words here and there and sometimes a little bit male-slanted. But a worthwhile read and lots of nuggets to take away for your own career.

Lots of good info- especially for new Airmen
I’ve been in the Air Force for more than a decade and a half BUT I still learned many things from this book. As a PME instructor, much of the content is discussed in my classroom and I learned different approaches and perspectives on the material that I teach. If I were to read this today as a new Airman, I would take so much more away from this book, solely due to a difference in experience level. My only constructive criticism is that some (not very much) of the info is out of date but that’s a byproduct of how fast things change in the Air Force and military in general.

Awesome survival guide for military life!
This author tells it like it is, and he tells it in a very conversational way! This is an easy-to-follow guide of the questions and pro tips that we don’t always think to ask because someone somewhere assumes we already come manufactured and pre programmed with these life skills and knowledge! This isn’t just a book about the military, it’s a survival guide for life too!AJ’s clearly had great success in his career, and this book is an easy way to learn from his journey. His tips on networking and personal relationships are spot on! Add this to your collection and have a few on hand for your Airmen too!

Great book with tons of information and references Airmen need to know.
This book is easy to read and chalked full of excellent information. It creates a paradigm of how to develop a successful career in the Air Force with excellent advice on everything from sound financial management strategies, managing your marriage, winning awards, maximizing your benefits, etc. The author writes from his experiences and gives you the formula for success. I wish I had this resource when I was a new airman and I’m glad it’s available for the next generation. This would be a great read for new airmen and new NCOs, and maybe even old NCOs who need a little direction hahaha. Buy it!
