This is a great antenna. As i commented on the other review, not sure what they meant by a "ton of resistance", thats how antennas work. I've had this mounted to the handrail above the console of my boat for 4 years now. Never had one problem. I can remove the whip and store it when I cover the boat. The removable whip connection and the mount are just as strong now as they were when new. It has excellent transmit and receive performance. I'm able to get the automated Sea-Tow radio check in my area at about 15 miles. My antenna is only about 7 feet off water, and the sea-tow antenna is just on their roof at a marina, so maybe 40 feet. Used as a masthead antenna on a sailboat it would give great performance. The color of the base coil has faded just a little from white to off-white, but there is no cracking or anything like that, and it sits outside 24/7 in south Alabama sun, so fading is expected. Great antenna.

Ton of resistance - Digital won't back up its product
I purchased this item to replace another antenna which was 10 years old. This antenna was installed by a professional and immediately tested with a huge amount of resistance. I contacted the seller who put me in touch with Digital's customer service. "All antennas have resistance" was Digital's position and then they asked me to uninstall the unit and re-test it away from the pipe work on my boat. I paid a premium for the Digital brand and I really wish I didn't.UPDATE 3.4.16 I had my professional installer back to work on a few things on my boat today. He installed a new, Tram 1600-HC antenna which costs less than half as much as this Digital one and it works fine. Putting this Digital POS in the trash tomorrow. One of the worst purchases of the past 12 months for me. Can't believe Digital wouldn't offer any reasonable option of working something out. Funny that a product costing way less works fine. Freaking awesome Antenna. Sturdy and double the range of my last antenna!

After installing the new antenna the radio is clear-as-a-bell and range repeatedly testing good at 26 miles
I installed this antenna on my sailboat's masthead 2 years ago. Prior to this, the VHF's range was at most two miles and didn't sound clear. After installing the new antenna the radio is clear-as-a-bell and range repeatedly testing good at 26 miles.
