Member's Mark Mandarin Oranges, 4 Ounce (Pack of 24) (2 Pack)

Every few weeks we do a pantry style food order. Lots of options for packed lunches & snacks, other staples, etc. When looking at fruit cups I had a choice between a case of name brand mandarin oranges and these Sam's Club ones. Knowing that many store branded items are often the exact same as name brand ones with a different label, I picked the cheaper Sam's Club ones to save a few bucks.I completely regret it.There is nothing wrong with these mandarin orange cups. They are not defective, they don't taste bad, and they definitely are worth the price. The thing I didn't like was that most of the already small orange segments are broken into smaller pieces, leaving me nothing to chew. I don't like the feeling of inhaling my food, I like to experience texture when I eat.

This brand was less expensive than other brands per unit, so it was a good choice. I like everything about cup mandarins, except the plastic cup itself. However, it helps me eat small portions, drink a very small amount of electrolite infused fruit juice, and it's harder to get canned mandarins shipped.Opening the seal is tricky. There is almost always a splurt of the juice toward you, even after you master opening with fingers on rim only without pressure on the plastic cover. Other fruit cup suppliers have controlled this better.

The oranges are OK. Canned taste better and seem less "cooked." The problem with these is the packaging. The plastic film lids are firmly glued on. Holding the bowl tightly enough to pull the lid off results in a big squirt of liquid once the lid opens.

These were delivered in early January; the oranges and juice had a dark orange/rusty color to them - never seen anything like it. The expiration date was 60 days away - wonder how long they were sitting in a warehouse? Threw them out.

The plastic covering on the fruit cups adheres tightly to the cup, and is almost impossible to remove without spilling the juice onto clothing or other surfaces. Also the ratio of fruit to juice is not what I expected. Too much juice and insufficient fruit.

Oranges still had a month until expiration but we’re browinish in color and did not taste great. Shipped directly from sams club but will not be purchasing again.

I use this as a snack at break or at home between meals. It’s better than candy.
