The restoration of this movie is art!
I’m trying to understand all the hatred this film gets, sure some scenes go on for longer than they should have, some plots don’t get closure. But can we talk about how visually stunning this movie is?The restoration must have taken awhile because it’s like a complete fog of unwatchable was removed from this movie. By all means hate the movie, but some of the developed characters ( GERMY/GORMY) are priceless. I felt for that character. I’ve watched a ton of terrible horror movies and can withstand a lot of long scenes that should have been trimmed, but this one is so sentimental and nostalgic. It’s beautiful to see it restored.

At least it's short. That helps alleviate some pain.
This is a truly rotten film about a sword-wielding serial killer. It starts off somewhat promising with a really funny pair of murders (that bring more laughs than scares thanks to the cheesy special effects). Once I saw that, I thought I'd be in for a fun ride. However the majority of this flop centers around two dumpy cops (and their criminal investigations). We watch them interview a few suspects and mope around the police station. Yawn. Subsequent kills never match the fun or intensity of the first two victims, which is definitely a shame. To add insult to injury, the ending of the movie is a ridiculous kick in the pants... it makes you feel stupid for having watched the whole feature. What a sad end to the drive-in phenomenon.

cool kills. I think the movie was a little ...
Not enough production value, not enough money, but entertaining (even with odd narrative choices), cool kills. I think the movie was a little ahead of its time.

Literally unwatchable, as in you can't even see it
The copy of this movie that's streaming through the MGM+ video channel here in 2023 really has no business being shown on a professional pay service. It looks like it was shot on 8mm, projected onto a bare wall and recorded with a camcorder on a VHS tape that was transferred digitally to VCD that was ripped into a Real Player file and then streamed on 56k modem.

So bad its goooooood.
The extra o's indicate the extra gooey cheesefest. The movie is a "talkie" but the dialouge is fantastic and over the top is an understatement.A middle aged creepy pervert truck driver who has naked pictures of girls all over his living room. He didnt kill anybody but he loves to beat his meat. A drive in with some old retired carny characters and a fugazi retard that would make Dustin Hoffman, Ben Stiller, Sean Penn, John Malcovich, Cuba Gooding, Juliette Lewis and the franks and beans guy from Something About Mary stand and ovate. Probably the worst pretend mentally challenged person in the history of cinema.Watch this movie its short and sweet with a twist ending and a few good kills. No T & A but still worth a viewing.

Not bad for a slasher film.

I got an air fryer for my birthday!
It’s my birthday and my boyfriend and I chose this to watch while we ate dinner. He left and now he’s upstairs and I’m stuck down here watching A Talking Cat!?! all by myself. Player couldn’t hang. I gave this movie 3 stars because it scared my boyfriend away and I assume he would give it 1 star. I thought it was 5 stars because I am a broken person. The average of those two reviews is 2.5 stars but you can’t enter that into the system so I decided to round up like a middle school math teacher. I’m not a middle school math teacher.

Title: DRIVE IN MASSACRELabel: 88 FilmsTransfer: Some Company / approved by the director88 FILMS brings us a BD Set of DRIVE IN MASSACRE containing a newly done HD transfer from original vault material which was approved by the director. Is it a big yes or a big no? Lets delve further into subject.First Blood:The transfer of the main feature film (76 min.) has been put together from two completely different sources. About 60 minutes are done from the original negative (or blown up 35mm material?) and about 15 minutes are done from source material which looks like a (very bad) DVD master. There are segments when the sources is changing often what is very annoying because the two versions are so different. It is hard to develop a feeling of watching a complete „film“. Both sources show heavy problems. Filmgrain is altered strongly in both sources und sharpness filters were applied to both sources. The DVD master……has completely different colours which suffer from a heavy unnatural looking oversaturation. Due to the sharpness filters the grain is digital and blunt looking. Edge enhancement is driven to the extreme. How bad this looks.Puh.The negative master……well, looks very filmic with nearly no saturation and an overall brownish tone. It is relatively soft in appearance but it is filmic and I call it authentic. But even here you can make out a small amount of edge enhancement. Not nice.No Grain Baby, No Gain:In general they filtered heavily. DNR seems to be a friend. It is indeed the enemy of this BD set. There is a visible amount of grain left and it behaves very odd. During camera movement the grain stays nailed down on screen. It is swarming while there are movements in the frame when the camera stands still. Plain spoken it looks damn awful. What a pity. The camera negative offers all the possibilities for an all photografic kind of look. They botched so bad.Final Thoughts:Another „transfer“ that is sad thing for people with big screen home cinema systems or projectors. I cant recommend at all for that kind of people. But it will be hard to watch even on small screens. I understand that the director didn't know what he was doing while shooting his cheesy cult classic (which I think is big fun to watch for what it is)…but now I understand that he still dont understand important things about filmic photographic processes and how to transfer the thing and handle the digital knobs. What did he approve? All the ugly looking digital flaws this BD set has to offer. Okay than, well done.A Call to 88 Films:Please have more focus on quality management for your products. This isnt the only BD set which contains a realy bad transfer. You offer such quality products (MAN FROM DEEP RIVER - the best I seen in last days) and on the other hand you buy in transfers which really sucks live out of anybodys screens. If a transfer it is bad, dont buy it. Make that clear to your clients or have transfers done by yourself maybe (third party)? You have a reputation to lose and you shouldnt publish every pile of garbage done by dilletants.More Reviews on AMAZON.DEAll About Ev(m)e:I am a collector of films for about 27 Years, own appr. 3.000 films (Would be far more, but I am extremely picky and often sort bad transfers out) and an optimized home-cinema room for a bigscreen projection via beamer. I learned a bit how to calibrate the system with software and instruments. I am also a hobby fotographer and have some experience with scanning camera negatives for myself. I am fascinated by films from reels since I am a kid and spent hours for hours in cinemas and film festivals. Whenever a Bluray release brings me back this emotion because the transfer looks filmic I am happy.
