Supertonic: Mixes

A gentle reminder that the originals are worth tracking down
I'm glad this C.D. is finally available. Having never purchased any downloaded music, that meant I missed out on some of the U.S. Billboard Dance No.1 hits Diana Ross has had in recent years, pulled together for this disc. There has been a little bit of criticism that the versions on the C.D. are "single edits" or "radio edits" and NOT the full length, chart-topping dance mix versions, but I suppose the record label were limited by what they could include on one disc. The remixes are, on the whole, tastefully done and in some cases are quite sweet ("It's My House"), but for any lifelong Diana Ross fan, like me, hearing these 21st Century versions only nudges you in into remembering how good the original recordings were. Some songs, like "Upside Down", or the original 12" version of "Love Hangover" never needed to be remixed. EVER.So, in my conclusion, I would say that this is a nice way in for young people who've never heard of or listened to Diana Ross before and who might be unfamiliar with her career, but for lifelongs fans this might be a case of "Listen-to-it-once-then-file-it-away".One last things, I've read negative comments about the front cover imagery ("It looks like a Christmas album", etc) and I'd have to agree that although it is always a stunning photo of Diana Ross, it HAS been used, to death, for various compilations over the years - it was used for the U.K. "The Greatest" compilation in 2011, for example. Surely, a more original or lesser used image could've been used? Oh, well.A project personally overseen by Diana Ross herself, it is encouraging to think that this may lead to more, new, "original" material to follow?

Great!
I was a bit apprehensive at first, after all these are all well loved classic tracks. I've heard so many remix projects that have totally butchered the originals. This is rather good although a bit on the short side. The mixes work and give a fresh 21st C redux without losing the integrity of the original recordings. I expected the mixes to be extended but they all clock in at the average single length. Worth investing in!

Just another remix cd.
Well nothing new here just more remixes of classic Diana songs. Some interesting remixes, just wish Diana would get into the studio again and record some new stuff. Worth buying if you are a fan just to check out the new mixes.

Fresh Faced Diana Ross
This Diana Ross album is amazing even though rather short it’s a bit like a 1970 35minute Disco album that we’re around back then but the remastering and remixing technique with Diana Ross velvet tones to boot this works brilliantly making the old songs sound fresh well worth getting

Good re-mixes
It is nice to have a "new" CD from Diana even though it is just 9 re-mixed short tracks. I enjoyed it and look forward to her new album.
