The Lives of Others: Sublime Interiors of Extraordinary People

Its a beautiful beautiful book of photos.The photos are sublime, the mat paper of the best quality. The rooms are original, «undecorated » almost nature like in their composition, scale and colors. Well curated. My problem is you can’t really see the rooms because its a book of “ tableaux’s ».Photos meant to be beautiful in themselves and they are.The lighting is so soft, subtle etc that its hard to comprehend what is going on in the rooms. If you want a book on interiors perhaps this is not for you.To me, (just an opinion) this does not appear to be the focus of this book. If you want a book of sensitive and extraordinarily beautiful photographs of interesting, artistic interiors for the sake of beautiful photos in themselves; this is your book. One of the best out there I have seen.If you want a book to learn about and train your eye to create what makes a room “sparkle or sing” and be a magical place to be, this is not your book. The information is not clear or complete enough in the photos to actually understand all the layers and complexities of each room.I was expecting a book on “interior design “.

The photographs are without question beautiful and very creative-- as Simon Watson's tend to be. Some of the rooms are equally so. Lovely to get a little bit of a feeling for the houses that are photographed, but they are missing enough context to make one feel disappointed. Not knowing who the people are in some of the houses, nor how they connect to the house is very odd-- why include them. Those parts make one feel like one is paying for someone else's family photo album in which only the family would recognize the people and the rooms. Better, more complete captions (even as end notes) would have made this book truly worth the cost.

The photos are dark, the accompanying text too brief and not particularly illuminating.

Absolutely stunning. And bonus point for the fact that the paper were matte and not glossy.

The book itself is a piece of art. Beautiful stock paper with wonderful photos that let you take a peak into the past and lives of others.

Sorry, aber dieses Buch hat nichts mit Innenarchitektur zu tun. Es ist eine verwirrende Sammlung von Fotos, die überhaupt keinen Sinn ergeben oder eine Klarstellung von Personen oder Gegenständen enthalten.

Das Buch hat mich nicht begeistert, leider enttäuschend... Der Titel hält nicht was man erwarten könnte!

Libro non di arredamento, le foto delle case si concentrano su particolari insignificanti e molte sono di paesaggi delle località in cui si trovano le case, Napoli o la montagna.Molte foto sono buie e quasi in bianco/neroNessuna spiegazione sulle immagini ne alcuna indicazione sulla storia delle residenze o su chi ha curato L interior designMi spiace ma non lo consiglio!
