Poor Messaging
This game has been around for awhile and has much to charm: kids get in sneaky math practice, it is easy to learn, but not boring for parents (I'm looking at you chutes and ladders. Please die in a hellfire.), and was invented by a 6 year old girl (with some help from her parents). The low star rating is due to the terrible messaging. Most of the queens' waists are toothpick thin. I've never seen women corseted so tightly. It is ridiculous. These ladies make Disney princesses look fat. My other complaint is the lack of agency these poor ladies have. In the game, they are asleep. A king can wake them up or a knight can steal them, but the ladies can't do anything for themselves. A Queen in chess has WAY more power. Booooo!

I give this game 5 stars for fun and quality
I give this game 5 stars for fun and quality!!! The absolute only reason I put 3 stars is to draw your attention to my review, because after playing this at my sister's house out of state and falling in love with it... we came home and ordered it ourselves and when we started playing we realized that we had a different version of the game!!! My sister bought the anniversary tin version of this game which has MORE queens! And I believe there's an additional king as well. It has 6 more cards then this version. I was really sad when I learned this because the other version has a "strawberry queen" who is immune to all sleeping potions and knights so if you get the strawberry queen no one can steal her from you. This is an additional twist in the game which makes it extra fun! Since we don't have a strawberry queen in this version, we made the ladybug queen our "immune" queen so we could still play with that added catch. I actually want to return this version and get the other version. It's only about $2-$3 more for more cards. Totally worth it. It's easier to play in larger groups of 4 or 5 people when there are more queens to go around. I know if there are 4 people playing you only have to get 4 queens or 40 points to win but then the game just goes too fast... so we always find that trying to get 5 queens is much funner. We even keep playing until all the queens are off the table sometimes or until someone has 7 or 8 queens if it's just 2 of us playing. When we played with 4 people yesterday, there weren't enough queens to go around and even with 3 queens times 4 people that's already 12 queens... still not enough queens! So take my advice and buy the other version!!!!!!! If you are going to spend $10 on a game, fork out the other couple bucks and get the larger version. I like how both versions of the game are small boxes and don't take up tons of room in the game closet, which is getting pretty full by now! The list of queens included in this version are:1. Rose queen2. pancake queen3. moon queen4. rainbow queen5. starfish queen6. dog queen7. cat queen8. Ladybug queen9. heart queen10. cake queen11. peacock queen12. sunflower queenThe additional queens in the larger version are: butterfly queen, strawberry queen, ice cream queen and book queen.I hope this helps you to make your final decision on which one to buy. It isn't a question of whether to get it or not, it's a question of which one to get! This game is awesome! And another note... we played with 2 friends just this first week we've had the game and both friends ended up ordering their own versions, the larger versions of course. Everyone loves it. My husband comes home from work and wants to play, my 6 year old wants to play, it's great for everyone. We are creating fun family memories because of it. Thank you Gamewright!

GREAT GAME for all ages!
This is a GREAT game! It seems overwhelming when you read the directions, but it is actually quite easy and makes sense. We played it with our 6 year old grandson many many many times and none of us got tired of it. I would suggest playing with 3 players to start with as it goes faster and is easier to learn. We have played with 5 and it takes longer but is still quite fun. So why four stars? Well we played with my grandson at his house and his set came in a tin box. It had more of everything, queens (16), knights, kings, potions, dragons, wands. So when I got this one it was a much smaller set (12 queens etc.). Had I known the difference I would have waited to go to the store where my daughter-in-law bought it and got the one in the tin box. That said, it is truly a GREAT game!!

Love This Game!
We have been on the hunt for a few card games that we can play with the kids at night or even that they can play themselves without our help. We have a few other games from this brand, and we had heard good things, so we gave it a shot. This is our 4 year old's favorite game! The 7 year old likes it too and it's not boring for mom or dad to sit down and play. It's amazing for helping our older son with math problems, but I will say that's the slight downfall of the game. You're holding cards in your hand and you can trade them in if they make an equation.. say 1+9 = 10. For the 4 year old this is tough, but he works hard on it.

Great kids game and motivates them to learn some addition!
This is a fun little game. I like that it's quick and that it's good addition practice for my kids. I'm not sure why it says ages 8 and up. Maybe because it can be challenging for them to play on their own with the math. But I play with my five and seven year olds and they both love it. I just help my five year old to figure out the addition...which, hey, what better motivation for her to learn than through a game she likes? I'm pretty stingy with my five star ratings for games. This is not entertaining enough, in my opinion, for adults to play on their own without kids. But it's a solid four stars and I recommend it for sure.

This game is so fun and secretly educational!!!
We are a game loving family and play TONS of fun games with our 6 year old, and this is the best one!! Our kiddo is super excited by it, plays it longer than any other games, and practices lots of math at the same time. Our kiddo’s teacher says that math is a “challenge area” so it was fabulous to accidentally find out how many different math skills this helps him practice! Plus, I genuinely have a ton of fun playing too. Win win win!

My 4yo is obsessed!
My son started playing this game at school when he was 3, and loves it! We just got him his own copy for his 4th birthday, and he would play it all his waking hours if someone were willing to play it with him that much :-) Since he can't add yet, we help him with that aspect of the game (when it's your turn, one of about four possible actions you can take is to discard cards that form an addition equation, like a 1, a 3, and a 4), but the rest of it is easily mastered by 3-year-olds and up. But it's decently interesting for adults, too, so you won't mind playing it with your kids. Each game is very quick--the box says 20 min but when we play someone usually wins (gets 5 queens) within 10 min or less, and then we keep playing until all the queens are awake just for fun. The box says it's for ages 8+, but I highly recommend this for ages 4+!

THIS GAME IS SOOO GOOD IT WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO STAY AWAKE!!
‘Sleeping Queens’ – oh my God! This is SUCH an addictive game – I’m already hooked!!I don’t know why, I knew nothing about this Game, its Inventor or anything, but, I’ve been purchasing a great number of Card Games recently, and I saw this, and loved the artwork and just had great ‘vibes’ about it! Not often anything like that happens without even a slight disappointment as things are seldom as you expect, but this... I cannot fault the Game! I just want to keep playing, playing and playing - win or lose! I kept my partner from going to bed the day we got it because I wanted to keep playing, yet I hadn’t won a single game at that point! The mechanics of this Game are simple – yet have enough depth to them to both make it interesting to play, and to make it tactical as well as just ‘luck’! The theme is delightful, and the quality of the artwork and Cards is brilliant! This is one Game in my collection (almost 800 now) that I shall CERTAINLY be wearing out! (I can see myself purchasing another coy in readiness!)There’s got to be something wrong where anyone could not give this five stars - and it has NOTHING to do with the fact it was devised by a child; I didn’t even know that when we first saw and wanted it!Every game is different!FABULOUS and now one of my all-time favourites! :-)

Lots of fun, teaches sportsmanship, everyone in our family enjoys this game.
This is our favourite game to play as a family. We have gifted it to a couple of friends and would highly recommend it. It has racked up more playtime than any of our other games and often we will play two or three rounds back to back. One game can be about 10-20 minutes. When we first got it we had to play through a couple of times but once it clicked it’s a very easy concept to pick up. It’s been great for teaching about sportsmanship - there’s no point losing your mind if a play goes against you as you might be able to pull it back round later, and you can’t be too hurt by an aggressive play as that’s the whole point of the game. It’s difficult to overstate what a positive impact that has had - turning ‘attacking’ moves into silly, funny moments has eased a lot of tension between my 5 & 7yo and that’s a great thing to learn in board games. My highly motivated, game-loving 5yo picked it up quite easily but it took my less motivated older child a few more goes to get it - thankfully the artwork and characters pulled her in. Even Granny cottoned on after a few plays!Really recommend this game, it’s a lot of fun.

Fantastic Family Game
This is our third Gamewright game, and it is the children's favourite age 6 to 12, girls and boys. They are absolutely hooked, we've had it for three months and it's played several times a week. It takes about twenty minutes to play and although the rules seem complicated at first, it's easy to pick up. Bright, quality well illustrated cards. Sleeping Queens, Rat-a-tat-Cat and Go Nuts for Donuts - you can't go wrong.

Phenomenal
Bought this after seeing how it engaged children between 4 and 10 on a weekend house party. The interest lasts well beyond a weekend and it is one of those rare card games that adults will find interesting and yet can also be played independently by 5-6 year-olds. Has now become one of my stock birthday presents for both boys and girls.

Even hooks reluctant game players
Our cupboards are heaving with all kinds of games, yet this has become a quick favourite since Santa brought it to my 9 year old at Christmas. We all enjoy playing it, even her 11 year old brother and Dad, both of whom usually do everything they can to get out of board games. It's simple to pick up, with just the right amount of boost and jeopardy play, and games are short, so you can take it out for a quick play without committing yourself too much time-wise. Probably one of the best games we've ever bought for the kids, and we've bought a lot.
