This book is good for learning about some older generator repair but I've found the best thing is watching James Condon's really great generator repair videos on youtube. Including engines, power heads, and controls. He knows his stuff and is a natural born instructor/teacher.(He also shows you how to deal with those pesky tapered engine output shafts.)

Like the Amazon descriptions indicate, this is for '90s generators. But, at least down here since we get stuff fairly late in the distribution process, it also covers '00s units. I have a Porter-Cable Model BSI525 5.25 kW (6.5 surge) generator that required engine service and I had a dickens of a time getting the generator rotor off the engine output shaft, in order to disassemble the bottom end of the engine; it is a tapered fit and one must use a big two-jaw gear puller to get it off. And I've had various other maintenance tasks; hence, I figured it was time to get some written instruction. This book covers my needs just fine.Included are instructions, line drawings, and wiring diagrams. But note that the engines are NOT covered; you must purchase the appropriate engine manual for that. It starts off with a chapter on generator fundamentals, which is nice if you know nothing about how generators work. But the book assumes you know your way around machinery and have some familiarity with tools. After all, it IS a Clymer "ProSeries" book.One erroneous product description detail should be noted: the Amazon info says this book covers generators up to 13 kW, but the back cover of the book says it's only good up thru 8 kW. I haven't personally verified the numbers one way or the other.

So if you are like me and the hoards of others that have bought a big box clone. You've heard by now the horror stories of getting these repaired. Because the Chinese distributors don't offer repairs or a repair manual and the main stream dealers won't soil there hands with these knock offs... what to do? Most big box store/Chinese generators are really a clone of some other famous brand like Honda. Mine is a Duromax 10000E. It's unabashedly identical in set up as the Honda 11000...At 4 times the cost.This manual, plus some mechanical prowess and a good online Chinese clone parts supplier and you'll be fixing yours and all the other spark-makers in your neighborhood. Also google Chinese clone generator forum and get some knowledge from others who are addressing the same issues.

This covers the electrical part of a dozen generators. The older Mitsubishi, several Hondas yada yada. Just whati I needed. There are a couple books out there from them, If you got an older unit try to find the book it’s in. Easy for me since mine was on the cover of this one.

Book I got is a used library book. Not new! Price was outrageous for a used manual!!

BE AWARE THAT THIS MANUAL ONLY COVERS REPAIR OF THE GENERATOR UNIT! It also has a lot of diagrams of electrical circuits. I bought it thinking it would cover other components of the generator such as carb, 4-stroke engine, etc. BUT IT DOES NOT. Thus the way the cover of the manual reads is deceptive as it suggests it covers overall repair and maintenance of portable generators.

I bought a used generator that needed some repair and this manual was very helpful in getting the generator repaired. It is well written and easy to follow. The pictures are helpful and it did the job for me.

I found this to be a great purchase. As always, Clymer's manuals, Small A/C Generator Service Manual, V2, helped me diagnose electrical problems and repair several friend's generators, i.e., Porter Cable, Generac and Honda. Thanks Clymer!

For troubleshooting of small, old generators electrical components only. I needed information on a Honda generator and found what I needed to fix the problem with excellent testing and repair procedures in this manual.

Bought this for general information on repairing small generators, might be all American but details of generators and engines very useful for tinkering with generators.
