Come September

One of my favourite films, I love everything about it, the stars, the clothes, everything.

This is one of my favorites. Watching it on Blu-ray was like seeing it for the first time.

Recommended for fans of Rock Hudson, Gina Lollobrigida, Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin.Like many DVDs and CDs that I ordered from Amazon, the purchase of this DVD was driven by nostalgia rather than a liking for the the leading cast or the the storyline. It's for me an average Rock Hudson movie without Doris Day. I first saw the movie around 1962 before I entered elementary school. I might have fallen asleep during the movie - it was not quite my cup of tea back then. There were two things that I remembered about the movie - the opening scene at an airport with the catchy theme that was composed by Bobby Darin. A Rolls Royce emerges from a cargo plane through the clam-shell door at the nose of the aircraft. It is driven out of the plane. For years since seeing the movie, I remembered that it is Rock Hudson who drives the Rolls Royce out of the plane but after seeing the DVD, I realised that my memory was flawed - it is a valet or chauffeur who drives the car and not Rock. The other thing that I was able to remember was what Mom told me during the show - Rock Hudson owns a villa in Italy where he stays only for a month each year but in his absence, the caretaker of the villa has turned the villa into a hotel without Rock's permission. If you like Italy, you will enjoy scenes of the Italian countryside. As a comedy, the movie is quite enjoyable but not superbly hilarious like ' Send Me No Flowers' , 'The Love Bug', 'Top Secret' or 'The Naked Gun.' A desire to listen to the 'Come September' theme is the main motivation for buying this DVD

I realize that Rock Hudson fans usually tend to favor the Hudson/Day films, heck, I LOVE them, too. But this one, there's just something about it that makes it different than the others and makes it stand out for me. This is my favorite of all his movies.Rock Hudson and Gina Lollobrigida are positively sensational on screen together. I have to say that this is the most handsome I've ever seen him look and the most beautiful I've ever seen her look. And with the location of Italy, it just adds so much. And now that I've finished reading Rock Hudson's biography, it goes to show you just how brilliant & gifted of an actor he was! He has amazing screen presence in each of his films! I highly recommend this one.I'm really glad to have gotten this from Amazon! From growing up in the `80's, I've never seen these movies before or even gotten into watching movies from this era but wow, they just don't make them like this anymore. And by that I mean movies and their stars. I hope Hollywood can somehow bring back the glamor, elegance, sophistication, style & grace that the stars of the `50's and early '60's had. What an example they could then set for this current generation.

I bought this DVD as a birthday present for a favourite cousin who thinks it is the best movie he has ever seen. I watched it and liked it too. It is old fashioned in morals, compared to today's standards, but it was fun.The story is :Rock has a villa in Italy which he visits everySeptember but decides to visit earlier unawares that while in the Sates the rest of the year his Majordome(manager I think)is using the Villa as a hotel,hence the panic and riotoussituations.He meets Sandra Dee and somehow feels protectivetowards her against some young americans guys who also decend on the villa.Add into this, Gina Lollobridgida as Rock's girfriend and watch for the double standards in morals.Loved when Gina tells Rock Hudson she had to learn English to speak it in her own country just to please him.Bobby Darrinand his mates are also hilarious when they try to intoxicateHudson (the old guy!!!) and end up under the bar.In summary if it is nostalgia and good clean fun you want then I suggest you buy it.

This is one of those Classics that you don't see or hear much about. A lot of people know and love the Hudson/Day movies but this one is just as good. Rock is his usually charming, funny self and Gina Lollobrigida is fantastic. She is funny, smart and beautiful. A perfect counterpart to Rock. My wife and I discovered this hidden gem a few years back and it has quickly become one of our "must re-watch over and over again" movies. It is set in Italy and Rock plays more of the father figure kind of like Cary Grant in Walk Don't Run. Its got a lot of laughs and the romance is high. Anyone who likes You've got mail, Pillow Talk, Send Me No Flowers, or romantic comedies in general has to watch this one.

My husband and I saw Come September when it was first released and enjoyed it very much. It's an excellent vehicle for Hudson, who picks up with Lollabrigida where he left off with Doris Day. The scenery is lush, the score is excellent, and the script is clever, and, for its era, adult. Bobby Darin singing Multiplication shows why his all-too-short career was so successful, Sandra Dee is perky and cute. And Walter Slezak runs away with his scenes -- a casting triumph. Hudson and Gina set the screen nearly on fire with their nightclub dance and it's easy to see why the two were paired again in Strange Bedfellows; they looked like they were really having fun. Hudson was a much better actor than he was given credit for being in his lifetime; his comedy-romance roles, his body moves and his double-takes are worthy of Cary Grant, and are displayed to perfection in Come September.

Solo quiero decirles que para mi fue muy difícil cancelar el regalo de Come September,.Esto ocasionó que me enviarán y cobrarán por partida doble dicha película, que me llegó 2 veces.Pienso yo que sería conveniente, hubiese una forma de cancelar lo que por equivocación marcamos y a la hora de pagar y aceptar la compra, resulta que uno SUPUESTAMENTE canceló regalo y no.Esto no quiere decir que no vuelva yo a comprar películas que me gustan este próximo año que entra.Otra cosa, me estoy enterando ahora que regresé, pues estuve fuera del país y ahora les estoy contestando, la cosa es que yo no pedí se me cobrara para tener creo tarjeta Premiun. I thoroughly enjoyed this; it was a lot of fun. It was a golden time for Hollywood film in in Italy, I think. Great cast and I loved the fashion of the era too. All this and a vespa. Good quality print as well..

Einige Schnulzen unter der Regie von Douglas Sirk, eine Oscarnominierung für Giant und schließlich der Riesenerfolg mit Pillow Talk: die 1950er hatten aus Roy Harold Scherer Jr., besser bekannt als Rock Hudson, einen der größten Stars der Traumfabrik gemacht. (Bei etwa zwei Metern Körpergröße ist dies sogar im doppelten Wortsinne wahr.) Es war ein langer Weg für den ehemaligen Lastwagenfahrer mit Sprachproblemen: Sein einziger Satz in seinem ersten Film »Fighter Squadron« (Regie: Raoul Walsh) brauchte sage und schreibe 38 Takes, bis er endlich im Kasten war. Anfangs hielt wohl niemand große Stücke auf den gutaussehenden Burschen. Mit einer gehörigen Portion Ehrgeiz und der Hilfe einer geduldigen Sprecherzieherin namens Miss Cunningham kam Roy alias Rock schließlich bei Universal unter Vertrag. Um seine Homosexualität zu kaschieren, arrangierte sein Manager eine Ehe mit der Sekretärin Phyllis Gates, die 1955 geschlossen wurde. — Nach dem sensationellen Erfolg von Pillow Talk konnte Hudson sich seine Projekte (weitgehend) selbst aussuchen. Zwischen 1961 und 1971 entstanden nicht weniger als 18 Filme mit ihm als Star, von der Salonkomödie bis hin zum Spionagethriller war alles dabei. Allein 1961 liefen drei Hudson-Filme in den US-amerikanischen Kinos an. Den Anfang machte der romantische Western »The Last Sunset« (Regie: Robert Aldrich), in welchem er Seite an Seite mit Kirk Douglas, Joseph Cotten und Dorothy Malone spielte. Nur zwei Monate später startete »Come September«, gefolgt von »Lover Come Back« im Dezember 1961.Ausschließlich an Originalschauplätzen in Mailand, Portofino, Ostia, Rom und am Lago di Albano gedreht, trumpft »Come September« vor allem mit den beträchtlichen Schauwerten Italiens. Die Story mag aus heutiger Sicht etwas altbacken und angestaubt erscheinen, aber die Aufnahmen sind nach wie vor ein Augenschmaus, die Besetzung hochkarätig und das Flair so leicht und fluffig, dass man Appetit auf mehr bekommt.Hudson spielt den amerikanischen Geschäftsmann Robert Talbot, der eine schmucke Villa in Italien besitzt, wohin es ihn einmal jährlich verschlägt, üblicherweise im September. Er verbringt den ganzen Monat dort und ist dann wieder für elf Monate in den Staaten. Seine italienische Freundin Lisa Fellini (Lollobrigida) hat das lange genug mitgemacht und steht im Begriff, einen furztrockenen Engländer (Ronald Howard) zu ehelichen, als Robert telefonisch ankündigt, dieses Jahr ein paar Monate früher nach Portofino zu reisen. Natürlich wird Lisa wieder schwach. Sie lässt den englischen Verlobten sitzen und freut sich auf ihren »Roberto«. Dessen Ankunft bringt allerdings die Geschäfte seines Verwalters Maurice (Slezak) durcheinander. Der hat nämlich die Villa seines Arbeitgebers für elf Monate im Jahr zu einem Luxushotel umfunktioniert — ohne diesen davon in Kenntnis zu setzen. Augenblicklich gastiert eine Gruppe junger Amerikanerinnen mitsamt einer englischen Anstandsdame (Brenda de Banzie) in Talbots Villa, und die Zeit reicht nicht, sie vor die Tür zu setzen. Maurice gerät ganz schön in Zugzwang. Eine Gruppe junger Männer (u. a. Bobby Darin und Joel Grey), die ein Auge auf die hübschen jungen Damen im »Hotel« geworfen haben, sorgen für zusätzliche Komplikationen…Aufgrund der zum Teil schwierigen Wetterverhältnisse zogen sich die Dreharbeiten ungewöhnlich lange hin: Fast ein Jahr verbrachte das US-amerikanische Team in Italien. Sandra Dee und Bobby Darin verliebten sich in dieser Zeit ineinander und heirateten kurz darauf. Gina Lollobrigida sieht in den von Morton Haack für sie maßgeschneiderten Kostümen einfach fabelhaft aus, Hudson guckt meist erstaunt aus der Wäsche, macht aber als charmanter Salonlöwe eine gute Figur. Brenda de Banzie ist mal wieder ziemlich unterfordert, hat aber einen possierlichen blauen Wellensittich namens Don Carlos an ihrer Seite, der uns einige Lacher schenkt. Die meisten Gags aber liefert der heimliche Star des Films: Walter Slezak ist als liebenswerter Schlawiner einfach großartig. Der gebürtige Österreicher hatte es in den USA zu einer beachtlichen Karriere gebracht, sowohl am Broadway als auch in Hollywood mit Regisseuren wie Leo McCarey, Alfred Hitchcock, Jean Renoir, Vincente Minnelli und Robert Wise. Leider machte ihm seine Gesundheit sehr zu schaffen und zwang ihn 1980 dazu, kürzer zu treten. Entmutigt von seinen vielen Maläsen, nahm er sich kurz vor seinem 81. Geburtstag mit einem Kopfschuss das Leben. — Alles in allem ist »Come September« gut gealtert, Situationskomik und Tempo halten auch heute noch den Ansprüchen stand, so dass die Komödie auch 2018 noch beste Unterhaltung fürs Wochenende bietet.

Buon servizio, prodotto ottimo, consiglierei a tutti di ordinare questo vecchio film molto divertente. anche, anche essendo un film degli anni 1960.
