A childhood favorite
I recall checking this one out of the school library repeatedly because I could not get enough of the storyline.

Blast to the past
I haven't read this book in years, and really enjoyed seeing it again. Best friends Amy and Clarissa love hearing the stories that Amy's mother tells about Old Witch, and the Little Witch Girl (Hannah) who comes to stay with her up on the Glass Hill. Except...are they really only stories? It's a charming book that one young lady of my acquaintance has fallen in love with.

I'd Forgotten The Name Of This Book
As wonderful as I remembered it, having read it 32 years ago. It was one of my favorite books that really opened my imagination landscape. I'm reading it to my youngest daughter, who is 7, and she finds it as delightful as I did. Reading "The Witch Family" to my child through adult eyes, I wish I'd remembered the name of this book years ago to read it to my older two children as this book hits the imagination quite unlike any other book. 'Banquishment'? Glass hills? Witch school? Letter delivering cardinals? Bumblebees named Malachi? My imagination has never been the same! My son read a chapter to my youngest the other night, and for the first time (he's read her a couple of other chapters) I heard him read with inflection, feeling, and animation. "The Witch Family" is infecting him too. And I couldn't be more pleased.

Sweet, but avoid the TOO-sweet audio version!!
The Witch Family is nice, non-scary magical tale with more heft than contemporary "Color Fairies"-type books. It's a sweet, old-fashioned book -- but heavy emphasis on the sweet. It's the sort of book where things get called by kiddie mis-pronounced names like "noo-doos" for noodles, over and over again. When you're reading to yourself, or reading aloud, that can be part of the charm. But when your kids are listening to 5 hours of audio book on a long car trip, you have to hope that the narrator doesn't lay it on too thick. As it happens, this narrator lays it on triple-thick: syrup on top of honey on top of sugar. Every single sentence, happy or not, is pronounced with a huge, honey-dripping smile...for 5 hours straight. I grudgingly gave it 4 stars because my girls did enjoy it, and they're the target audience in the end. But as an adult, it was flat-out excruciating.

I have given this out to my granddaughter & niece with a little inscription inside the front cover letting them know this was on
Read this as a little girl and I still remember it. I have given this out to my granddaughter & niece with a little inscription inside the front cover letting them know this was one of my favorite books and that I hope they will enjoy it as much as I did. A wonderful story about two little girls that use their imaginations to write about a mean Old Witch that they banish to a glass mountain but then feel sorry for her, so they add a little witch girl to keep her company. Just a delightful book!

4th Grade granddaughter loves it!
I must have read this 10 times as a child! I was so happy to send it to my granddaughter so she would have something to do while riding out the no school days of Covid-19! Her mom said she little one just buried herself in the book!

Favorite children’s book
This was a favorite when I was a child. It’s a little dated now of course but still an excellent story and well told.

My favourite children's book
This was my favourite book when I was a child. I tried to find it 30 years ago for my children but failed as I couldn't remember the exact name of the book or the name of the author. But I recently tried again for my grandchildren by searching (we didn't have Google or Amazon 30 years ago) for "book with bee called Malachi" and found it. I've just re-read it and it's just as good as I remembered.

Fab book
Remembered this book from when I was a child. Not sure why it hasn’t caught on as much as others - it’s very unusual and fab. Luckily my 6yo daughter agrees. Arrived in good condition.
