Velvet
This is the second book in the "Promised Land" series ; the first being "Willow". Both are good but "Velvet " I enjoyed more. C.B. is a masterful storyteller. The characters are real and their feelings palpable. I love a story that can make you both laugh and cry and Carolyn accomplishes that.In this book the hero is a former doctor who "hung up his bag " when he couldn't save his wife and twin brother from death. A tortured soul, he resides as a hermit outside the army fort he used to practice in.Velvet (the heroine) is unceremoniously dumped at his cabin when she gets a fever on the wagon train. By the time he finds her -in his bed, no less - the train is long gone...I felt that the raw emotion experienced by the hero was true to life. And Velvet...well she's just a hoot. On one occasion she sends a pack of warring Indians away with "blessings " in the form of curses. I was killing myself laughing. Ok maybe it wasn't necessarily realistic but it was hilarious. The Indians take her for a "devil woman " and gallop away.As time goes on it becomes increasingly apparent that the two of them may just need each other ...if they can only let go if their stubbornness and misplaced loyalties.Overall it was a wonderful read with no violence or sex. There was one cuss word.Bottom line : don't let the boring cover fool you its a great read!

Good Story
Although one knows the ending in advance and may be anxious to get to it, the story was well written, interesting and the reader can feel happiness for the love couple as well as the positive evolution of the other characters. Well done!

Answered prayers be ready
Loved the fast paced story. Recommend for most any age. Leads you through the hardships of loss. Yet shows you how to let go also and live on.

A Promised Land
A very unlikely beginning for Velvet and Hoyt. He has vowed to never fall in love again after losing his wife and son in childbirth. She had to leave the bride wagon train because of an illness. As the only doctor in the area, Velvet is taken to his cabin, where they find their promised land together. Book two of the Promised Land Romance series by Carolyn Brown was a fun read.

I really enjoyed this story
From the 1st page I didn't want to stop reading, the characters are so well written I went from feeling sad to laughing and the part about the Indians was hilarious and then the part about the church and how velvet is so great at putting stupid people in there place and then gets a new friend out of the horrible day this was a very well thought out story great read can't wait to read about the rest of the sisters I hope they all have the great temper that keeps them from being afraid on there new adventure

2nd book in this series
I am now headed to the 3rd book. I love this author, her writing is so down to earth. Whether you sit down with a good cup of coffee or a big glass of sweet tea - when you are reading a Carolyn Brown book, you have just sat down with a group of new friends.

Good easy read
Interesting characters and an easy read. Plot was too easy to be great. Only one surprise I did not figure out.

Good read
Another good story from Carolyn Brown. Characters very believable, headed by a very strong, feisty female. Rather predictable ending but a good read all the same.

Second in the Promised Land series, wonderful like the rest!
In a surprising twist, Velvet comes down with a deadly fever, which had killed another woman on the wagon train. Their guide takes her to the Fort, where he learn that the doctor is no longer in practice, but has retired and living almost as a hermit since his wife's death. Against his wishes, Velvet is left at his home, and he heals her and she in turn heals the ache in his heart.
