Deeper issues & a harrowing finale
This series has always had references to Benni's deep faith but this novel delves into that faith more than previous books in the series. Dove is asked to take over directing a children's play of "Pilgrim's Progress" for her church and ropes Benni into helping. During rehearsals she finds the dead body of the church's handyman and discovers that a young immigrant girl is the only witness. She probes into the death and becomes involved in the issue of churches harboring illegal immigrants. She also comes face-to-face with her own mortality in a deeper way than previous books and learns about other's free will to choose and how we may not have forever to show those we love how much they mean to us. One of the fun things of reading a series through is seeing the author develop her writing style and also watching the characters learn and grow. The first couple novels had Benni getting banged up and scared but this one was a much more mature scenario with deeper currents that tested her faith. This was my favorite so far in a series that gets better with each novel. They could be read as stand-alones, but there's so much back-story to the characters and since these books are fundamentally about relationships, they need to be read in order to get all the meanings.

Earlene Fowler delivers another fantastic book!
I had already checked out this book from my local library and had to buy a copy to keep for myself. If you are already an Earlene Fowler fan, you know that there are parts of her books that are read time and time again! The interplay between the main characters promises not to disappoint. Add a desperate cousin and life-threatening hostage situation and you've got a book you can't put down.

delectable mountains by earlene fowler
The benni harper series written by Earlene Fowler is definitely a favorite of mine. I love audiobooks and my Kindle. It surprises me that all of the books were not available via Kindle and/or audiobooks format. I was so pleased to find this audiobook to complete my collection. This series is at the top of my favorite list and this book was wonderful. It is so easy to get involved with this series. Earlene Fowler is a terrific author.

Good entry in the series
I liked this one a lot more than the last one because it had the things I love about the series - the family, the ranch, the community. The author writes so well about these things. However, I was disappointed by the violent quality of the ending - it was not an easy read. It was also the first book in the series that I felt was heavy handed with the author's religious beliefs.

wish i could write one review for the entire series
THat is not to say there are no differences. The plots are very different, but consistensy in character of all the repeat persons is appreciated. This series is relaxing, easy to read, and comforting. Not that the characters do not have their share of personal problems. It is the way these problems are willingly worked out for the better that is so reassuring. True in this whole series. DKW

I really love this series
I had begun reading this series years ago, but recently re-read the old ones and purchased all the ones I did not already own. I am not a quilter, but I do enjoy hearing about the quilts and other activities going on in Benni's work and home life. Would be a cute tv series to be honest. A cozy read, yet keeps you wondering and turning the pages.

Delectable Benni!
What's not to love about a Benni Harper book? Half of me wants to be her best friend and the other half would be scared to be around her with all the mystery and death that seems to follow her everywhere.
