Does a good job at thinning my acrylic paint.

Great product. Bad labeling.
I find the product to be very good for what I use it for. I bought it so I could apply some medium to some Burnt Umber acrylic paint & distilled water and place all contents into a 120mL squeeze bottle and then I have my very own Agrax Earthshade wash like Games Workshop produces. Since Agrax Earthshade wash is probably the most used shade from Games Workshop I decided to make my own and I found a YouTube video on how to make it and so this matte medium is great stuff to help me make it. I also make an equivalent Lahmian Medium as well from this product too.The only complaint that I have is that the label on the bottle was so bad I couldn't read either side of it and it seemed as though mine was previously opened and used. I wish Winsor & Newton placed some type of seal on it so in the event that the seal was broken I would have known it was open straight away and asked for a replacement. I had to dock it one star for this. All in all the product is top notch and it works great.

Works great as a top coat for model planes and tanks!
I'm using this as a matte topcoat for model planes and tanks. It works great!! I've tried a whole bunch of other matte clear coats like dullcote, klear with a flattening agent, tamiya flat, and vallejo matte. None of them come close to how well this stuff works!! You can see it in action in the photo I uploaded: The plane's right wing still has the Alclad Aqua Gloss that I put on it (by far the best gloss clear coat you can use, I highly recommend that as well). The plane's left wing has been hit with just enough of the galeria varnish to bring down the shine to a good level. You can also bring this baby to a DEAD FLAT finish if you want. I just prefer to keep a little satin finish on my planes. It goes on super easily using an airbrush. I thin it about 1:4, DI water to the varnish, and spray it from 15-20 psi from about 3 inches away. Just go back and forth lightly over the model, building up super thin coats at a time. It really helps if you mist the varnish lightly enough to where it's hard to detect if it's even going on. Hold the model at an angle to where it's reflecting the light. Just mist on enough of the varnish to bring it down to the right level of matte that you want. I don't even need a satin topcoat because I can control how much I bring the gloss down with this bad boy.I honestly can't recommend this stuff enough for model planes and tanks. Two huge thumbs up!

No safety seal
I was very disappointed that when I opened the jar it just flows out. Really need to have a safety seal on this like most liquids do!

Love the texture
I often use gel mediums in my acrylic paintings. Glass beads is my favorite. This brand is high quality.

Great Stuff
I bought and tried this glass bead gel a few years ago for my multi media paintings. Later I couldn't find this brand and tried a few others. None was the same. Took me awhile to find this again and so glad I have. Love it!

Took about four coats.
I have a large painting that I wanted to cover and paint over, this painting was mostly acrylic with some mixed-media paint. This product Took me quite a few layers to get to a decent coverage. I believe I had to paint over four times in order to make it more of a clean canvas and even so I can still see some evidence of my previous painting underneath. This doesn't bother me because I know I will be using other colors over at but if you get distracted by a not clean/fresh canvas this might be an issue for you unless you're okay with putting about 5 to 6 thin layers. You do get a lot of product so if you have the time this really shouldn't be an issue and I do want to mention that my canvas is pretty big and I still have more than half of the container left over.It also made a very nice Textured drawing surface so I wouldn't call it completely smooth but it is very Nice to drawn from my point of view.I do recommend this product because it is fairly basic in quality and has a good price but just keep in mind all of the above.

Very useful.
I wasn't expecting this review to ask me to rate 'comfort'!I love having a big tub of gesso around, especially for some spur of the moment canvas prepping (ie re-coating/painting over). If you enjoy painting but haven't yet tried gesso do give it a go asap , it's such useful stuff. It covers well and leaves a 'clean' canvas which dries quite quickly leaving a chalky surface which is a doddle to work on top of.I hope you find this review helpful, thanks for reading.

Nightmare packaging
This is less a product review & more a packaging review. I don't know what numpty decided to wrap cheap sellotape around the lid but they need to be given a lesson in commonsense. If they were hoping to prevent a spill they shouldn't have bothered because Windsor & Newton had already made sure of that by placing a tightly fitting seal on the product. A problem with people not knowing the products they're packing but surely before needlessly wrapping in tape you'd look to see if the product could spill? It took me over an hour to get the ruddy stuff off & much cursing was involved. It was wrapped to within an inch of its life & the tape would only come off in mm pieces - it was stuck down like cement. To then get all the tape off & find there was no chance of spillage was infuriating. 😠

excellent product for miniatures painting
mix 1 part flow improver to 20 parts distilled water / water and shake it and you have a great product much better than water with paint only. why ? because it uniformly spreads the paint, maintaining uniform opacity as much as possible when you think down your paints with this mix. water with paint doesn't have the same surface tension as this stuff and therefore around the edges tends to be more transparent than the center when mixed with paints. Rob Paints Models on YouTube explains on his mediums video in 2019 and it is TRUE !

Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylic Gesso.
* Check carefully that you are ordering the right product, as Amazon have lumped reviews for radically different items together on this page!*I`m never without a tub of this acrylic gesso, for me it's a studio essential.Windsor and Newton's white gesso formula has been a tried and tested ground for virtually all my paintings for at least the last eight years; it gives effective coverage, is quick drying and versatile; I`ve used it to prime hardboard and MDF panels to provide a good seal and surface for acrylics. It can be sanded down for a smooth surface or applied with a housepainter's brush to provide a rougher, textured surface, but that's only advisable on a rigid support. It's also - of course - equally effective on canvas, ready-prepared or DIY; two thin coats maximum generally works well. It's suitable for oils, water-based oils and alkyds; one of my colleagues has even used it to prime heavy paper for use with oils, providing a satisfactory seal between the medium and the paper surface.A very dependable product, highly recommended.
