Hi AV,First it depends on how you want the shirt to fit. Snug or loose. I'm 5'9", 240 lbs. My waist is something like 44. So I like a shirt to fit loosely to cover my big belly. I bought a XXL. It fit just right. I love mine. I would think a large would be ok, but only you can answer that question. Hope this helps.Jim

I would get the xl, my son is 5'10" 165lbs and the large was really snug on him, to the point that the seams on both sides came apart
