Waste of time and money
Waste of money, did not play in my player. Nowhere in the description of the product does it say it only plays in certain region(s). Cannot return now because of shrink wrap being taken off.

Seller does NOT indicate this is a Region 2 DVD, cannot play it
Nowhere on the case or the listing does this state it is for Region 2. I am so angry, I got this for my girlfriend for Christmas, she was so excited to watch it tonight and we cannot play it in our machine. Appalling that they would not list the region in the item description or on the disk. Will never purchase from this seller again.

Non Disclosure
This DVD does not play ! Do not purchase and waste your money. When contacted rare waves they said it can only be played in European model players and they do not have a US or Canada version. They should not be permitted to sell with this full disclosure to consumers!I would not even give it one star rating however, it would not allow me to express this otherwise!

Great conclusion to a classic horror movie, for lockdown
The story starts decades after the horror in 'the Shining', where due to satanic influences Jack Torrents killed a man and died of exposure in the Overlook hotel grounds. Now grown, his son (Ewen McGregor) is in a poorly paid job. His psychic abilities are strong. A young girl (Kyliech Curran) also has this gift but in a far more potent form. She becomes aware of a group of child killers are around, lead by (Rebecca Ferguson). They all kill to receive food from the dying. The two psychics contact each other to pool resources to defend themselves and to save other child lives. What happens next?* CommentThis film is disturbingly spooky to watch in places. The story is more complex than 'the Shining'. The film requires you to have seen 'the Shining' beforehand to make any sense of it. The previous film is referenced many times to flow the narrative through. It covers a lot of ground to fill the film story. All the cast are supportive. This film is a really good update to the story. The film has a lot of time and money spent on it, for example, the Overlook hotel at the latter end of the story. In my opinion, it's as good as the Kubrick version but in a different way.

Good but not brilliant.
This was entertaining enough, but if you'd not read the book and weren't going, 'hang on a minute, he isn't supposed to die...' every five minutes then it would have been even better. Certainly they did the effects well and for a very long and complex book they condensed it well. Not scary, but a mine of dark imagination and creativity... My main criticism would be that a lot of King's genius was lost in the rush to get to the huge, prolonged cinematic end of shock and pyrotechnics, after which it got a bit tedious. I like to continually find out more and more not sit through a really long ending. Also Rose the Hat is far too pretty - she is apple pie perfect wife and mother material (She was lizzie in the White Queen) whereas she should have been darkly beautiful and exquisitely sinister, with a single long tusk!!! Just saying... otherwise recommended.

All so very confusing
This movie drags on quite a bit to begin with but you need all that time and more to work out what on earth is going on. Where is the storyline heading, who are these people, what are they doing and why are they doing it, the mystery keeps building and the questions keep coming until at least the middle of the movie. I didn’t follow the plot much until they finally decided to drive to the Overlook Hotel and even then, it leaves you guessing who the characters at the hotel are supposed to be. Wendy and the kid were always easy to identify but the Jack Nicolson lookalike, not so much. The original Shining was easy to follow but this one is full of supernatural being’s hell bent on killing humans which didn’t fit in with the original plot. I’d like to say I will never watch this movie again but I’ll have to or I will never understand what I’ve just watched.

DULL
Purchased this due to the positive reviews on both amazon and rotten tomatoes but not sure what they see in this and felt the urge to write a negative review after the disappointment. Whilst the first film the Shining was intentionally slow to build up the eerie atmosphere this film is even slower with a disjointed plot. The film is not scary, the antagonists are miscast and not threatening and the absurd plot moves away from the gritty more realistic take that stanley kubrick’s original film The shining had in relation to psychological and paranormal horror to a contrived story revolving around a cult that suck up spirts from their victims. There are numerous scenes that go no where and serve no purpose, likeable characters and no real plot that flows. Normally a good film will draw you into the plot, this doesnt as its very paper thin and seems like a cash in from Stephen king on the Shining.

Not even a terrible follow up
This could've been shorter and better. The story felt confused and had very little flow. The final scenes felt like they were added to make it tie back to the shining. The main protagonist wasn't scary she was an irritating take on conventional eccentric.I must admit I fell asleep it was so gripping, and had to rewatch it.Don't bother.
