Dahle50464 Paper Shredder, Cross Cut, P-4 Security, German Engineered, Jam Protection, Oil Free, SmartPower, Shreds CDs, 24 Sheet Max, 30 Gal Bin

I have had a number of different shredders and used them extensively to shred lots of paperworks and tax returns from relatives as they moved out of their houses or passed away (50 years worth of paperwork for two relatives - so dozens of filling cabinets worth). No Oiling necessary and the throat design is easy to feed paper in because of the way it is tapered - kind of like a funnel. I've also noticed that the opening is wider than several others from Fellows & Staples - so if you have wider than normal paper or a stack that isn't all oriented the same way you can still feed it in without organizing it. I don't want to waste time organizing something I'm trying to destroy. Finally, it is very fast and relatively quiet in operation. Some shredders seem to struggle, this just happily and quickly shreds whatever you need. I have a Fellows Powershredd that sometimes works well and is sometimes finicky to load or overheats. It also is seems to want to be oiled very regularly which then wets all the shredding. (With all this shredding I recycle it and oil isn't good in the recycling bin.) The Staples shredder is very good, but it's throat is very particular as to how you feed the paper in so I spend more time feeding than I would think is necessary. It is a P5 or greater security level and has worked well with no issues. I lubricate the Staples one with the Lubrication sheets periodically and it has never jammed. I haven't had any issues with the Dahle Shredder at all and found it to be exceptionally easy & fast to use. Very impressed overall!!

Item came damaged from factory and all Dahle did was say sorry. They refused to do anything. It comes poorly packaged so make sure you inspect every square inch of it as well. This size unit is poorly designed. It's much larger than most units yet holds a ridiculously small amount of waste. I shredded a good two years of documents and I had to empty the cheap garbage cardboard box it came with every 2 minutes worth of shredding. The cardboard trash can comes assembled in such a way that a LOT of space is wasted not that freeing up that space would help much. Maybe give you 2.5 minutes worth of shredding time instead of 2?Anyway due to the wood portion of the shredder being damaged I returned it. There's no telling how long it would have lasted. After a couple days worth of use it started to fall apart.

Good, heavy duty shredder, as advertised. Had a bit of a delay in receiving the shipment, but that was in NO way due to Dahle. Dahle's employees handled the problem in a timely, professional manner. I would definitely purchase other items from them!

I'm a regular home user and this thing is probably way overbuilt. But at the same time the other ones you can purchase tend to be lower quality Chinese mass production. This unit is designed in Germany and made in the Czech Republic, and the build quality is astronomical. It's about the size of a mini-fridge and will probably outlive me. When you look at the cost of the cheaper units, and how many you'll go through in a lifetime, these make more sense.
