Riveting read about an extraordinary woman
I've always been kind of fascinated by Courtney Love, and so I looked for a biography of her. All I could find was this one - but it would be impossible to read a better study of Courtney than this. Right at the beginning the author tells us that she actually knew Courtney, and of course this makes all the difference. I've read a few music bios and they are usually written by rock journos, hence a bit plodding and listy. This is completely different. I've found out that Poppy Z Brite is a novelist, and it completely shows in the way this is written - almost like a novel, with an insight into how it must have felt for Courtney, and a novelist's ear for brilliant prose. Now I'm reading one of Brite's novels - and loving that too. Anyone who is interested in Courtney Love, in Hole, Nirvana and the whole grunge scene, should read this excellent book

I really enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed this book, I read it several times while I was traveling. Poppy writes in an engaging style and, regardless of what you choose to believe, she presents a side to Courtney Love that isn't usually portrayed.

Not in depth enough
I thought this book was a bit slim and the author could have looked into things (like Love's school life and early career) in a bit more depth. It didn't help that this was written by a personal friend of Love's who had written this after listening in on conversations, having her own conversations with Love and generally reading the media coverage of her. Apparently Love was horrified when she discovered this book had been written, though i don't see why as it shows Love to be pretty much angelic in comparison to other things i've read. It covers her life up until the mid nineties when she was dating Edward Norton, and more or less ended with a positive note - that Love is looking to the future and is happy. However, if you have been following her career since this seems rather laughable. Her music career is very sketchily described and her relationship with Kurt Cobain (what a surprise) is covered in more detail. All in all, due to this being written by a close friend, i felt that Love was put in too much of a saintly light and could have been dissected more.

What A Life
Fantastic book about a brilliant actress and great singer. Stripper, Junkie, widow Kurt Korbain and also a sexy lady. This book confirms that her life story would make a fantastic film. The best thing to come out of America since Iggy Pop, Lou Reed and Goldie Hawn.

Amazing Stuff
This is the best book I have read since `Confessions Of A Serial Adulterer` by Julie Johnson.American Icon Courtney has had a fantastic life - that reads like an adult soap opera.Like her English counterpart Julie Johnson - Miss Cortney Love is a self-confessed ex-stripper with a strong addiction to all things sexual. This book would make a fantastic film - and if they ever make a movie about porno star Julie Johnson - I have to say that Courtney would be perfect as the blonde bimbo who strips in the underground hit `Saturday Night Specials`.This naughty novel is a classic of its kind.

Courtney Love uncovered
nice to read a biography whereby the biographer was actually something of a genuine friend. Very insightful book.Sad, mad and leaves you wanting to know more. A real page turner. Speedy delivery and in great condition for a second hand book.

good book
Excellent book, worth the read. Has good consistency in events compared to other biographies on Love and her late husband Kurt Cobain.

intéressant
La jeunesse et l'ascension d'une déesse du rock'n roll qui a défrayé la chronique, dommage que le livre date de 1995...on aimrai avoir la suite.

A Few "Holes" In The Story....
I just finished reading this book, and while it didn't go into ALL the details I was interested in, Loves Hollywood experiences (barely covered) plastic surgery (non-existent), and her days with Kurt (sugar coated), I STILL couldn't put it down. Not necessarily because it's great, but because the subject is interesting. This book would've been far better if it had been edited further. It would've meant no skipped chapters, therefore dispensing with areas mired in unnecessary details. Brite becomes quite dull as she babbles painfully long-winded chapters dedicated to every boring and picayune detail of Loves early childhood, and schooling. Then she glosses over relevant subjects that should've been expanded on, while completely deleting major areas of interest altogether. Although I enjoyed this book despite the flaws, it left me feeling somewhat cheated. I will still recommend you read this book. Why? It's about the life of Courtney Love! Even if you find her vaguely interesting, or you're a devout devotee, you'll STILL find this book an entertaining read, cover to cover, because of the subject matter, and when NOT writing drivel filler chapters, the author writes well. I will say however, that I found the Melissa Rossi book far more interesting and detailed where it counts.
