Snow White with the Red Hair, Vol. 9 (9)

I learned about the series from watching the anime On Hulu. I've binged watched both season one is season two. I loved it so much that I found myself washing it when I came home from work at these stressful time. Season two recently was removed from Hulu so I found myself watching season one over and over again wondering how the story will end. I happen to look on Amazon to see if I could purchase season one and season two on DVD. And that is when I found the mangas. I started with this book because this is where the anime ended. And I have to admit it is just as awesome as the anime series. I will continue to read the rest of the Mangas to Feed my need to know how the story ends.

Never thought a volume that wasn't focusing on the romance could be one of my favorites, but I absolutely LOVED this volume!Granted, the intensity and the worry with/of the sickness was NOT my favorite, but I feel we had a really interesting group of characters working together that we haven't seen together in this kind of way thus far. Ryu and Shirayuki work together all the time and we've definitely seen that in earlier volumes, but I feel we see the trust between them as well as how much they care for one another in this situation. They have such an interesting friendship and really enjoyed seeing their friendship in a bigger way in this volume.But ah, the big one though was Shirayuki and Izana! Considering how much I hated him in the beginning, I was SHOCKED that I actually liked him quite a bit in this volume! I feel one volume at a time he is redeeming himself and appreciated how he is actually showing respect to Shirayuki in his actions and words. Also LOVED seeing Shirayuki stand her ground in her conversations with him! Seeing both her and Zen continually do that gives me the utmost satisfaction every time, but I feel feelings were running a little high in this one so it felt particularly moving. Actually looking forward to seeing Izana again!I liked everything with the research part of this volume and admired Shirayuki saying how they have to be honest in their works and research because they could lose their ability to help other people. No matter how amazing or incredible a new discovery is, protecting it at the right of deception is not the way to go. As she tells the person in question, honesty is the only way TO go. Goodness, can Shirayuki get any cooler?! I know she said Zen was the coolest, but I definitely think she is even though I really like Zen!Very much looking forward to the reunion of our characters and Shirayuki and Obi's health being fully restored!Also forgot to mention that another surprise arrival of a character was awesome! Another plot twist I didn't see coming!

New content!!!The anime doesn't have any of this in it so this manga onward is all new content for me!Shirayuki gets to bond with Izana and he gets to learn why so many people, rightfully, respect her and she gets to solve a cool little mystery with our two favorite boys Ryu and Obi with some extra characters that we are likely never to see after this arc but it's all cool we loved them while we had them.I thought that for sure when we got to the plot twist there was going to be some attempted murder but nope, none of that! I was also glad to see that it took some time to figure things out and they had to do some weird research to get to a certain point.We love us some research driven characters!

Ok, I admit: I love this series! It's unusual, definitely a Japanese-themed twist on what is otherwise a medieval European fairytale setting, but beyond that...The best part of the series:- Slow building romance (so, so hard to find these days! Either they get together within days, or they have the longest period of denying it, only to suddenly get together in days!). This story takes time to build a friendship, then admit love, then explore how to move forward, all while admitting life and situations will play into their relationship, and doesn't stop just because they are together. There’s reality in the middle of the fantasy, the hardships of making a romance work, alongside the celebration moments when it does. That's far better than any made-up "drama" that we find in so many stories these days, both because it's real, and because it's (amazingly) new to read about!Ok, on to book nine: so, Shirayuki and Ryu have traveled to the city of Lilias for work, unaware at first that Prince Izana was joining them. He reveals that he wants to stay undercover, and uses the name Louen. (End of book 8)Shirayuki & Ryu discover that people in Lilias are getting sick with an unknown illness. The rate of its spread makes them declare an outbreak!How will Izana view Shirayuki under pressure? Can Shirayuki & Ryu find the source? And how will Zen & his aides react when they learn about this from far far away?Yeah, no spoilers here. Just read! I quite liked this book in the series, more than most. Read it!

I ordered volume 9, and right away the book starts off in the middle of chapter 39 which is supposed to be the last chapter in this volume. It even has the back pages "your reading the wrong way" in the middle of the book. It then skips to mid way through chapter 37-38 and back through 39. This volume is supposed to be chapters 34-39 so it's missing 3 1/2 chapters, which is crazy. What's even crazier is the fact that I requested ANOTHER one and it has the same problem!! I'm not even gonna bother to try a third time because this is ridiculous.

Usually when I find any good story, it's usually spoiled by misogyny and sexism, but in the Snow White with the Red Hair, I could not find it. It's honestly refreshing to find a story where there is a healthy romance, and I'm here for this.

The series = absolute GOLD! I cannot recommend this serious enough…however, I ordered this volume from Amazon and got a complete misprint with the volume chapters completely out of order. After just getting my replacement, I thought it was finally correct as the first chapter was in place correctly but then noticed it started to have random parts of the other chapters all throughout out of order! So disappointed
