Hasn't clogged yet
Pretty good technical pen. I've had a little sluggishness, but it may be from the fast-drying ink: Koh-I-Noor Rapidraw Ink, 0.75 Oz Bottle, Black (3084F.BLA) . Shaking gently activates the tiny nib plunger to get the ink going. If you do not know and love these India Ink pens, I recommend you not start. My use case is that I want to write on everything -- photos, glass, negatives, posessions. I don't use it for drafting or art.For decades I used the Faber-Castel TG1-S in 0.35 size, an Koh-i-noor ultradraw. I found one on Amazon a few years ago, but broke it. These pens are delicate. The Mars Matic is a close match in size to the Faber-Castel, but the finish is a bit sharp-edged. The color is dark blue -- really a saturated blue -- in bright light it almost glows and looks like its picture here. The pen has chartreuse highlights at each end and on the nib -- the ISO color code for the 0.35 mm size.

Precision pen
I saw this technical pen on Youtube channel "Peter Draws" and had to by one. I got the finest point of 0.13. The isograph pen does the finest hair lines. I was creating life like feathers with it. One thing with this kind of pens is there delicate and got to take care of them besides cleaning. It does not take much to clog the tip. It's easy to take apart and clean with water. When you done or walking away you have to put the cap back on or the ink can clog but usually a damp rag will work by wiping the tip. Got to use Staedler inc for the Mar Matic pens. Last thing about this pen is if your going to use it often, buy an extra. I did and it was a good idea, because I was trying to scratch something around my eye and the pen slipped out landing head first on the drafting board. The pen would not work after that.

Pen collectors- pass this one by
I enjoy collecting writing instruments. I have fountain pens, gel pens, felt tipped pens, pencils etc. I learned about this pen while reading a review for another item on Amazon. I was expecting something along the lines of a very fine point refillable Flair. What I got was a plastic cased, metal pointed "technical " pen that has yet to write at all. it does not come with any ink, and is not usable as received. Apparently those "in the know" about these things are aware that you need to order ink separately. I am used to buying a new pen and expecting it to arrive ready to write. Perhaps it is my fault for not really understanding what I was buying, or perhaps there is room for a better description of the item. If you are a pen collector who wants to add to your collection, pass this one by. It is for architects, designers etc that have a better understanding than I had of what this thing is (and is not).

The best pens
Technical drafting pens are a rare, obscure breed to those not already familiar. To the uninitiated, they may be daunting: expensive, unusual, complex; not archaic but somehow almost alchemical. All of this is true - but in the best of ways. If you could write with the Philosopher's Stone, it would be a drafting pen, and it would be a Staedtler.Drafting pens are marvelous writing instruments, and Staedtler is the best brand I've ever used... though not the prettiest. This pen lived up expectation and I love it. A fine, solid line, never varying in thickness; rich black ink that lives on the page with a stark vibrance...This is a good starting thickness for thin-tipped drafting pens, offering a fair combination of a delicate line without the gratuitous fragility of the skinnier nibs. A 0.35mm might be a better option for a first-timer, though, unless you are already used to delicate writing instruments and have faith in your fine motor skills. Finally, remember: these are finely engineered writing machines, and you have to treat them with care and respect.

Smooth Clean Lines, but you cant move too fast
Hard to clean when the ink is overflown from the tip side, but the color and lines are so crispy, they compensate for the extra work needed. ALSO, this pen can write over paper indents where a ballpoint cant. I found that shaking the pen on an axis thru it’s tip and back end, helps to get ink on a tricky spot

The king of all rapidographs
I tend to use rapidographs for a lot of my illustrations. I know it doesn’t give a variation in line weight but it’s magnificent in consistency. I’ve been using Staedtler for over 40 years and it hasn’t failed me yet. Easy to clean and handle, by far this is one of the best purchases ever.

No good at all.
Don’t bother with these at .13. Down to .18 are fine, but smaller than that they are utterly unreliable and you’d be better off with a rotring.I’ve got a fair amount of experience with tech pens, and despite using the correct ink I have had two of these that simply don’t run at all, and a third that worked for a few hours then stopped completely. I cleaned it with the proper solution and an ultrasonic cleaner and tried again, to no avail, so I soaked it for 24 hours and redid the cleaning cycle... and stil nothing. It’s a shame because I prefer the feel and material used to the rotring isograph, and the .18 upwards have been working fine. But don’t buy the .13’s, unless you want to be utterly frustrated!

Awful
This thing shouldn't be on the market - should be redesigned and improved. Scratches the paper. Ink flow is awful.Rotring is so much better. I was looking for something new but I will stick with rotring. This

Literally the worst pen I’ve ever bought
I had to buy this pen for my geology degree for a mapping project and I have not know a single object that has made me more infuriated than this pen. It does not work, if you try to change the ink it will explode over you and the room around you and promptly break. I’m going to take great joy in burning this pen when my mapping project is over.

Vintage but a classic
Almost redundant, the Staedtler Mars Matic is a great choice of pen for pen and ink illustrations or technical drawings, both of which are moving to the digital medium. Easy to clean and maintain, as long as you ensure that the nib is not put under too much pressure, it will provide fine lines for many decades.
