Good for the critters up here in the mountains
The book is small (fits in a pocket) and has good line drawings of the animal tracks I am interested in, up here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It has a lot of marine environment birds, which is not so interesting to me. The descriptions of scat are very helpful.

Great book
A great reference field guide with a general overview of terminology and good information on the spoors and scat that may be found. Good starting point for wildlife tracker. Definitely a book to have in the library.

Not water resistant, but a good guide!
This is a great quick guide to use in the field, but the pages are more like a reading book than a photography book (as in the pages are not glossy/coated). The pages are more delicate than other field guides that I own and I anticipate this books end will be due to water damage.

Great pocket guide for kids.
This is a terrific book for kids to carry in a pack while hiking. It is pocket sized and covers not only mammals but also reptiles, amphibians and birds. There are drawings of the animals, tracks and track patterns and a distribution map. For adults who want a more extensive guide, try Mammal Tracks and Sign by Mark Elbroch or Tracking and the Art of Seeing by Paul Rezendes. My only complaint is that seven pages in the middle of the book are blank or only partially printed.

I Have Found it Useful
This was very helpful to me last time I was in Ontario. I found that the animals I suspected might be around are from looking at theirdroppings. I don't see many tracks, but I do see scat. It is what I wanted and needed.

Great gift for boys!
My 6 year old and I love this book! It’s easy to follow and easy to understand. The drawings are nice.

Helpful Resource Book
This book is a helpful resource book but wish it had more variety and more photos of actual tracks and scat. I used it to determine what type of critter I was dealing with who had set up housekeeping in a wood shed. The book enabled me to narrow it down to a weasel and rule out a fischer cat.

I have used the book and an additional aid as I hike with or without my grand kids. We study the scat and possible tracks. Thanks.

A little dissapointed
There's a lot of good information in this book, however there are a lot of things lacking. Such as proper map coverage for certain animal ranges, omission of some larger animals but including animals that we're not likely to ever see in the wild due to threatened status or extinction/near extinction.I realize putting together something like this is difficult, but considering it's a newer version of an existing book, I would expect map ranges for animals to be a little more accurate.

Great book
Bought for a friend and they loved the book and were looking forward to going hiking in the spring and were going to use it to identify scat on there trial walks now.
