the SmartExhaust is designed as a replacement for the bathroom fan and light switch, helping insure healthy indoor air quality as well as adequate bathroom ventilation. This switch is in a White color. By using a microprocessor to monitor and control fan operation, a precise amount of ventilation can be provided. There are two settings on the SmartExhaust switch, ventilation and delay. Ventilation is the minutes per hour that you want the fan to operate. Delay is the number of minutes you want the fan to run after the bathroom light has been turned off. the delay time provides additional run time of the fan to complete ventilating the bathroom after use. When a person enters the bathroom and turns on the light, the fan is also energized. After the person leaves the bathroom and turns the light out, the fan continues to run for the set delay time. In addition once an hour the fan is energized for the set ventilation time. What makes this switch particularly unique is that the microprocessor monitors manual operation time and Delay time and subtracts it from the set hourly ventilation time.

Very Pleased - owned less than one week: Here in the SE, you can have enough ventilation for a bath or water closet; so the timer is worthwhile to keep it in check when the heat or AC are ON ... to prevent over-ventilating; I like the fan-timer (it stays on for xx minutes after you turn off the light); and I like the yy minutes per hour feature, too, which would be useful in some circumstances to keep a bath or water closet ventilated a bit per-hour; it meets ASHRAE whole-house ventilation requirements and comes with a decal stating as much. I expect this device to be reliable and to save some costs due to leaving a water closet fan on all day (accidentally). Here in the Southeast (Georgia), humidity is the usual battle.

No more forgotten bathroom exhaust fan running for hours.
I ordered two of these and I'm glad I did. The installation was fairly simple with the basic wiring knowledge I have. I can now walk away with my bathroom fan still running and know it will turn off in 10 minutes. This will help with motor life, wasted power and also keep the mold and mildew down in our bathroom. The delay time is adjustable and it also features an hourly exhaust feature which will run the fan automatically for the selected minutes every hour. The unit also has a separate power source for a light if you need it. If this switch lasts it's a definite home run.

Works exactly as advertised. Easily installed -- though it's a bit beefy and installs best in a deeper box. My only complaint is that, although I ordered "white," the switch looks ivory to me. Package says it's white. It's definitely a different color than the white switchplate and other switches installed in the same electrical box.

Good product, but only lasted 3 years
The internals are breaking and now randomly turn off the fan. Sometimes it goes close to the set ~15 minutes before turning off, sometimes as short as 20 seconds, and anywhere inbetween. The switch has become difficult to operate. It's a good idea, but I don't want to replace it so often for the price. There are cheaper solutions if you have the space in the junction box that can be wired in.

Deceivingly Simple
This controller is an excellent option for those who are looking for a unit which is elegantly simple. Controls are set behind the cover plate and the user just has access to a toggle switch. This gives the illusion of a simple on/off control with hidden, intelligent automation happening behind the scenes ensuring adequate ventilation. Great for users that don't like fiddling with fancy gadgets.
