My 9 year old daughter has been working through the normal Rock School books. It's great that she can now make good progress through the books with songs that we both recognize (makes listening to the practice a lot easier!)

Good Syllabus!
I am a guitar teacher and i use these in my teaching. I do like the new acoustic rockschool syllabus, however, the difficulty level seems to one grade higher than the electric guitar syllabus in my opinion. Also, there are more scales to learn. It'a a good option for students that prefer the steel string guitar route and torn between electric and classical.

Rock-School Acoustic: It was all going so well till I flipped the page to the scales...
As a guitar teacher and former Rock-schooler, I am really struggling to recommend this book (as well as the entire acoustic series) to fellow teachers and students out there. While the pieces are appealing, their difficulty does not reflect the standard musical progression found in other exam-boards, or even against Rock-schools own electric guitar books (which I have used for years). The ludicrous amount of scale positions, arpeggios and other technical exercises is simply mind-boggling ; are they trying to put people OFF the acoustic guitar? While I appreciate the modern repertoire of songs (as I use a lot of these for my GCSE students) , I would recommend others to try the RGT acoustic books for a more balanced progression when considering grade exams ; the Trinity Rock and Pop stuff is also fantastic for electric guitarists, but alas they do not seem to do an acoustic rock-and-pop course yet - some money to be made here Trinity!I have to thank the other reviewers found on Amazon (ranging from a plethora of teachers and students) - I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who finds these books simply bizarre in their "musical approach".My final thoughts are to keep these books for the pieces (for learning or teaching), but I would not advise sitting a grade in this syllabus unless you enjoy the extra difficulty and unnecessary tedium...

An improved Grade 3 syllabus
The previous Grade 2 and 3 Rock School acoustic guitar syllabuses attracted quite a bit of criticism concerning uneven difficulty of the pieces and pieces too advanced for the grade.I'm pleased to say that the pieces here are of much more consistent difficulty, and probably on the whole a little easier than some of the previous Grade 3 pieces (and even Grade 2).The syllabus is in the same format with six songs, all of which are different from the previous Grade 3. These are;Take on the world - You me at sixThe man who sold the world - David BowieWeather with you - Crowded HouseHigh Horse - Kacey MusgravesLandslide - Dixie ChicksWild Wood - Paul WellerThe last two are written as duets with an assessed and a non-assessed part. Wild Wood did appear in the previous Grade 2 syllabus, but the arrangement here is slightly different. All should be manageable. All the songs involve rhythmic strumming and short solo sections. All songs can be picked, although sections of Take on the World suggest playing fingerstyle, and involving muted chords with some slides - nothing too difficult, but the Kacey Musgraves has some palm-muted sections and rapid bar chord changes (Bm, F#m and F#) which will require some work. An improvement and some fun playing.
