Good Quality...Handy Tool
Not sure what 'sheerness' means (certainly not English)....but assuming that it relates to 'cutting ability'...I would say Good. I find that these tools, although being from an older era, to be indispensable in aligning holes, marking points for drilling and even starting scree holes in wood or other materials where they can be quicker and easier to use than deploying a drill. I would say that they are a must for every handyman's too box. I'm very happy with mine. Thank you : -)

Pricy, but really useful
These are very sharp, making a hole quickly in most softwoods and even, more slowly in teak and oak. Maybe overkill in terms of set size, but have already used largest and smallest.

Greenwood only!
These were bought as part of a toolkit I'm putting together which specifically needs to be packable and non powered. They work, I'll give them that straight away - and they are plenty sturdy enough that you can put a stick in the eye to aid turning, but if you use them on well seasoned wood they will very likely split it, as they don't remove the material very well. Adding a hole at the end of handles for lanyards is where this went wrong for me, and I had already spent quite a lot of time shaping those handles - grumble grumble... On greenwood they are a bit more forgiving, so if you are intent on using them on something that was until very recently still alive, I'd give em a go. Otherwise, get back to trawling the flea markets for old-fashioned augers and auger bits.

Work really well in suitable materials.
These are good for the occasional pilot hole for screws into softwood. Quicker than getting out an electric drill, fitting a bit, marking the depth etc. More satisfying to use too.

Perfect for my forest school tool box
Much easier for the kids to use than a hand drill, they love them. Great price too.

Gimlets get straight to the point
Well made and simple design, had to smooth the ends of the handles as the finish was slightly rough. Using the gimlets to custom fit tubes in hearing aids, they work very well and the range of sizes is very useful. Great piece of kit
