Mediocre "how cider gets made" instructional dumbed down for toddlers who see right through it
It's a basic story about going to a cider press and watching the cider get made, but there is no plot or characters or even lovely pictures to redeem it. Basically a cider instructional dressed up as a "story", but the process isn't even clear. The press has some floating parts unconnected to the rest that my 4 yo was savvy enough to point out made no sense. 2.5 stars maybe, for strong mediocrity? I wish people wouldn't underestimate children's intelligence.

An autumn delight
We learned about From Apple Trees to Cider, Please! just before our five-year-old daughter was to go on a field trip with her kindergarten class to a local apple orchard. A few days before the excursion, we began reading her Felicia Chernesky's delightful book, and our daughter was able to enjoy her trip so much more having learned--by means of Chernesky's playful, precise rhymes--where apples come from and how they're made into the cider that our daughter loves so much. There are thousands of children's books, but this one stands out. It is written and illustrated with a warmth and care that will allow both parents and kids to discover a myriad of things to cherish in its pages. My wife and I have been going through and re-reading Apple Trees night after night before bedtime, but, amazingly, we're still enjoying it. (This is a rare quality for a children's book!)Highly recommended, especially for young readers showing an interest in language. Chernesky is a master poet, and there is a lifetime of study that goes into making verses fall into place with so seemingly little effort.Oh, and when you read the book to your kids, I bet they giggle with glee at the mention of "apple mush"!

Fun, great illustrations, loved by my son, captures the fun of the orchard
This is a great book....I read the poor review and I am a Librarian with a toddler who completely disagrees that is a mediocre book. The book has a fun rhythmic pattern that is fun to read and my son loves the book and likes hearing it over and over again. We live close to an orchard and the book captures the fun and wonder of going to an orchard and I think it would make a great choice for anyone interested in reading about it. The book IS informational & accurate about making cider. Great illustrations and fun to read. I came to this link to buy it as our copy we've been reading is from the Library.
