Developing Positive Self-Images & Discipline in Black Children

I ordered this book because I will be opening a school within the next few years. We will be educating and caring for the exact “type” of children that Jawanza Kunjufu discusses throughout the pages. Simply put, I LOVED this book and will be reading every other book written by this man.It’s easy to tell a person that they will have to “handle these children with care”, but he reminds us why these children behave the way that they do and why they need the extra love and attention. He then explains different methods on how to approach the situation.I was fortunate enough to have positive adults in my life who also handled me with the same care, so it was as if my loved ones were speaking to me through this book. That love, care and attention is the exact reason why I plan on opening my own school.One of the main things I enjoyed about this book was that it was less than 100 pages. He didn’t stretch his material across 200-300 pages, but instead got straight to the point in each chapter.

In this day and age it is very important to understand the miseducating and underrepresented black images in all areas of life. Everyone should read this book and it should be required reading in schools !

Dr. Kunjufu knows about educating black scholars and goes out of his way to share his wisdom. I thoroughly enjoyed his suggestions of teachers and parents signing contracts in partnership of educating scholars.Black children in poverty stricken schools can learn, however, it does take more effort to get past the surface level and build better relationships. I appreciate this great reference tool.

Where do I begin? This book is full of insight and brought me practical solutions to instilling a sense of self determination in black children. I not only plan to use the things I learned with my own children I plan on using it in my practice as well.Thank you Mr. Kunjufu

So pleased that I was introduced to DR Kunjufu. This was an excellent text.

A must read, very informative

I thought it would have given more information than it really did. Thought it was more about teaching black kids to love themselves. It focused a lot on the education system in the USA more.
